Well, since she faked this, it seems like pretty good reason to stop these kinds of junk lawsuits.
Yes, becuase if some people make junk lawsuits all the other people must be making junk lawsuits as well. The fact is, the justice system for the most part works, and very few friviolous lawsuits end up with money.

What then bears consideration (or perhaps not, if you're already feeling queasy) is where the woman got the finger...
I hear that the woman's aunt died very recently. . . they are looking into exhuming the body. I don't know how accurate this is; I heard it on a fairly unreliable radio news/entertainment show.

Frivolous lawsuits are settled everyday because it costs more to defend it that to give a lunatic plaintiff enough bucks to go away.

There is a very important phrase in the strategy of handling a lawsuit known as "nuisance value" Even if I know I have an absolute winner of a case that I can get rid of on preliminary motions its still going to cost the defendant around 5-10K to make an appearence, examine the facts, read the Complaint and documentation, put together and file Answer and prepare a Motion to Dismiss. If I can get a plaintiff to settle at 2-5K it makes more sense economically. Thats nuisance value.

Police said Friday that a woman lied about finding a human finger in a bowl of chili last month at a Wendy's restaurant here.

They said Anna Ayala, 39, was arrested Thursday night at her home in Las Vegas, Nevada, on a charge of attempted grand theft in connection with the episode.

This is not suprising to me. I have been wating just to hear that she was arrested. After the facts came out there was no chance that she had nothing to do with it.

I would like to formally request that a moderator re-title this thread to something clearly indicating that my favorite fast-food chain has been vindicated.

No, they said it wasn't the finger of someone who lost it to a leopard (or cheetah).

Police say the finger that a woman found in a bowl of chili came from an associate of her husband's who lost the digit in an industrial accident.
We know what finger to give her, for this scam. :shakehead Unfortunately for Sims, this will spark more legislation to stop these lawsuits. It is sad that some people will stoop to that level to get some money. I was thinking along the lines of Friendly Fire, because of the Wendy's in Australia. The only hot food they sell is hot dogs, definitely no fingers there.
