OK I took the manual's advice and played my first game on a difficulty level below the one I was used to on Civ2. So I played on Warlord and was amazed at how relatively tough it was compared to the Civ2 equivalent. I'm now going to move up to Regent, but before I start it can anyone please help me with these:

1) Trespass. I've seen this mentioned once or twice across the forum but nothing that specifically addresses this problem. What do you do to get other civs' units off your territory when the civs are 'Furious' with you and asking them to leave will start a war you don't need? At times in my Warlord game my territory was absolutely packed with hundreds of other civs units on their way to somewhere else or just standing still with no obvious intent. I was never sneak-attacked by any of them, but I'm guessing that was due to it being a Warlord game, and that on Regent the AI will be much more aggressive and sneaky.

2) "Starvation at Othertown!" - Where is the equivalent of Civ2's farms or food caravans, to feed high-population cities? I had very few cities that could grow continually. Most of them reached a plateau, and then had a die-off.

3) And how do you delete saved games? I have a massive folder of saved games that I want to delete, but cannot see how to. Highlighting and pressing delete key doesn't do it, and there's no menu option to delete that I can see.

Thanks for any advice.

1) Wait for them to leave. That's the only way.

2) None.

3) My computer --> Program Files --> Infogrames (or Atari) --> Civ III --> Saves

So there's no way to feed the high-pop cities? Really? Hang on, maybe I need to check the City Improvements lists again - possibly the affected cities didn't habe a granary. (I usually build Pyramids as my first wonder, but failed to do so in this game. So building granaries isn't my forte.)

And I went into the folder as suggested, but there's no sign of my 40-odd saved games (all the same game just completed, of which I only want to keep the last save). All there is in the Saves folder are about 7 autosaves.

1- Block them with workers or units to keep them from entering your land or
be prepared to strike them and then ask them to leave :hammer: .

2- You need harbors for coastal cities and aqueducts for cities not on rivers.
Cities on rivers should grow until size 12 if worked properly, then you will
need hospitals ;) .

3- Right click from desktop on C3C icon, then click on Properties, then click
on Find Target, then click saves file. You will see names of games, click
and delete the ones you want :D . I had tons of games in these files
until I learned how to delete.

Hope this helps.

1) Become more powerful, by acquiring more territory or building a bigger army. The AI's do tend to stay out of your territory if you have a higher power rating. Though if crossing your land is the only way to reach their destination, then nothing will help. You could sign a Right of Passage, so that they could use your roads to leave your territory sooner :p

3) If you're playing PTW or C3C, then the save folder is in:
Program Files/Infogrames/Civ III/PtW(or Conquest)/Saves

Thanks, I finally located the saves in the PTW folder and purged all the ones I don't need.

And re the population die-offs, my affected cities have all the improvements. I think the problem may be the locations, i.e. too many forest/jungle squares. Will be starting a new game tonight, can't wait ;)

clear those forests and jungles, some cities are just in such a poor location they wont grow until you get electricity so you can irrigate anywhere and railroads which increase the food produced by irrigation. and some cities will never grow at all. as others said, there are no food caravans, but you can help slow growth by adding workers / settlers to cities as long as you have workable tiles to support the added population.
