Finishing games you're gonna win

How often do you finish a game when you know you're going to win?

I can't remember the last game I finished, and lately I have been calling it quits by like t100 or so.

Had a game today where I was the first one to meet two commercial city states and two science city states all within about 15 turns, nearly quit on t20. I only didn't because it hardly ever happens, and I just wanted to play a Deity game like it was settler.

I usually do. If the AIs have been annoying me, I'll click one more turn and leave a few going away presents (in the form of nukes) before I start a new game.

I finish most of them. Sometimes when it’s been obvious for a while and I get the itch to play as someone else, I’ll quit and start a new game.

Sometimes when I screw up getting certain great people or wonders I just quit even though I would have won regardless because my Utopia on earth just got thrown out of the window. :/

I don't play that many games, but I always close them out. It can be a grind, though.

If I quit, it's reasonably early in the game when I'm just not enjoying how it's playing out. It might be quite possible to win, but just not worth the effort.

I still don't have all the achievements for winning as the various leaders, so mostly, yes. If I quit, it's usually because the map or some other aspect of the game turns out not to be very interesting.

Whats an achievement anyway

Steam achievements, I guess. They show up in your Steam profile.

I finish everything I'm leading in. I save one turn before I know I will win so I can use those saves if/when the Hall of Fame gets implemented in the game. I played arcade games in the 80's... high score lists make repetition much more fun.

I do believe Vickie was being ironic, as in "I don't pay any attention to any steamy achievements."

I KNOW I don't.
It's all about the game, the journey TOWARDS the highest score ... that I can get around to getting (I have difficulty getting around to declaring war).

For highest score, presently that means extending the game out as long as you can so your borders, districts, (and wonders) & population is as high as possible.

Mostly. The only time I didn't finish most of my games after I knew I was going to win was after the summer patch. That was the worst patch for me, and pretty much ruined the game for me. Many unfinished games in that patch. Lately I've been finishing all of them. That said, I do try to get a fairly early victory, usually around 1900 which I believe is around turn 400 in epic speed. I don't micromanage enough to get victories before 1800 except conquest of course, but even that I tend to delay so I can use some of the advanced units. I do like to see later game stuff like bombers and such, but no way will I want to go to the turn limit with the map I usually play. It gets pretty slow on my computer with only 8 gb of RAM.

Of course there's an easy way around that by setting only time victory at 1 turn. :)

I finish maybe 10% of my games, whether or not I'm winning.

If I'm not winning, I know that warfare might be the answer, but I rarely can be bothered. The last eras introduce some units - battleships, submarines, bombers - that the human player can take an even greater advantage of compared to the AI and maybe that's the reason I find late-game warfare be the most boring sort of warfare.

I think some of us are just wired differently...(I will finish a game no matter how boring if it means I will at last get the achievement of winning with Peter)

I am always ticking off mental achievements in my life. I can't help it as it is what drives me..for example I am a keen cyclist and I have to complete my 1000km for the month even if it means going out on the evening of the 31st of a month to ride 6km in the rain to get that little bit of self accomplishment. :)

By the way my wife finds it all very amusing!

If a game starts out particularly bad, then I might quite by turn 50. But if I get passed that, I am in it for the long haul. And I do mean "long". I set my turn limit to 2000, but have yet to have a game go beyond 600.

Yes, I know for most folks that is far too long and wrought with tedium...but I like it.

Most of the time I'll finish. Sometimes not.
A lot depends on the turn times too. Those can get stupid.

I've yet to finish a marathon game on the ludicrous map. I love CQUI, but once the game gets to a certain point, it really bogs down.
Trade routes, buying tiles, umf. (thats even just on huge maps, nevermind ludicrous)

Oh, and that huge map is kinda buggy too. Pity as it is a lot of fun.
