Firaxis: why isn't Sealand in Civ5 vanilla?

This thread will get closed in 5....4....3....2....1.....

Why would it be closed? This thread is as serious as all the other "why isn't my Civ in" threads.

Yeah but Dale, how viable is this island Civ? At the beginning it will only be able to possess 1 land unit because of 1UPT.

One of the core un-alterable tenements of Sid Meier's Civilization is that all Civ's start equal. Thus it is irrelevant. However, I can understand the fear the other Civs would have seeing Sealand in the game, so to even up the odds yes, I can agree to only 1 land unit (settler) in the beginning.

Maybe I should open a thread about Disneyland.

Anyway you have my support for Sealand.

Thankyou for the support. Disneyland though? That's a company, not a country. :)

I really just think the fundamental thing blocking Sealand from getting in is balance. They would just decimate all of the weaker civs like China, America, etc. It'd be like putting Chuck Norris in as a character in Super Smash Bros.

Yes, this is very true. I think the only true way to balance Sealand against the other Civs is if they do not appear until 1967AD. At least then it is fair for the other Civs.

I'm amazed this thread made it past the first page. Congrats.

Also, the princess of Sealand was pretty hot back in the day. She would probably be the leader in Civ, since she's good looking but had no legitimate power.

The Princess is indeed a fine Lady, both in beauty and intellect. I would be honoured when playing Sealand in civ5 to select her as my Leader. :)

I think it's legitimate for people from countries that aren't in the game to ask why they weren't included, whereas other civs are always (or almost always) included in the civ games. It's not like there's a clear system for rating one civilization as "better" than another. It's quite arbitrary, and yet somehow the same civs show up again and again in all the civ games, while others are never included or included only in the expansions.

I think it would be kind of fun to have a game where all the civilizations are relatively small and obscure. maybe not as much as Sealand, but you could include Poland and Wales and so on. I mean, why not do this? Would you refuse to buy the game if it didn't include China, England, and America?

I personally would prefer not to play as any real nation - against them, sure, but I'd like to have custom civs to play as. Alas, XML escapes me.

So barring that I just want to play the game, period. Choosing leaders based on their types, not what civ they lead.

Dale, your first post is almost not funny because it's too good of an impersonation. A little too much realism in this.

It's true. These threads of "we're great, why aren't we in?" are getting tired.

Enough seriousness to be funny, and enough humour to be serious. ;)
