"Fire" Developer Diary

1. Carnival- attracts Chaos Marauders
2. Gambling House- attracts Revelers
3. Public Baths- attracts Succubus's (Sucubi?)
4. Large Animal Stables- attracts Ahmen Minotaurs (this may be changed to the chimera if we can get good art for it)
5. Mage Guild- attracts Mobius Witches
6. Weaponsmith- attracts Synish Minotaurs
7. Temple of the Veil- attracts Tar Demons

Is this cumulative, e.g. city with a carnival has a 5% chance of spawning a chaos marauder, a city with a gambling house has a 5% chance of spawning a reveler, a city with a gambling house AND a carnival has a 10% chance of spawning one of chaos M. or reveler? Or does having more buildings keep the spawn chance the same (e.g. 5%) but just allows different types?

I'm really like that the Sheaim of Fire will stray so far from the beaten path of a vanilla Civ4 civilization. Interesting mechanics and fluff is why I have fun playing this mod.

Eventually --

It would be an interesting wrinkle if a redemptive Sheaim (who has switched to neutral or good due to religious choice) had a different list of gated units and building dependencies.

No, the chance is flat. If it rolls the chance then it goes through and builds a list of creatures it could produce in that city (that there are appropriate buildings for and arent already maxed out). If that list has more than one entry on it it randomly creates one of the units from that list.

you mean by choosing a different Sheam leader you can get different gated units?!
Sounds interesting ;)

I think he means that if the Sheaim become good then good units start to come through. It makes good sense (if when worshipping the leaves they get plant creatures, when worshipping runes they get earth, etc).

but I do like the different leader tack also. As I would assume the personalities of the leaders would make for at least a slight variation.

So like Os-Gabella would get some kamikaze type units.

I believe that the OO will try to keep the counter between 40 and 60, and if it goes any higher they would be better off switching religions.

Been answered already, I know, but FWIW that'd be more than a 10% chance - you'd also have to include the 2.5% chance of BOTH spawning, so it'd be a 12.5% chance of getting one, the other or both. I'm trying (and failiing) to remember the formula for calculating the probability of one or more independent events occuring, but it'd work out at around 45-50 percent with all 7 buildings built if they were independent - that'd be a lot of units :)

Whats a revealer?

"Reveler", as in one who revels (parties).

Everything they needed was provided. There was no disease, no weakness and a world of gifts to fascinate and learn from. They were overjoyed at what they had, until they saw someone with an even more amazing gift. This was the first pain they experienced.

This pain consumed them, they lost an appreciation for the value of anything they possessed and were ruled by desire for what others had.

A society without those willing to sacrifice made it impossible to wage real wars, so instead they cheated and stole from each other. A small group tried to protect themselves from their own envy by binding their eyes. Unable to see what others had they became content. These were the only ones who survived.

Even without their sight the Revelers, as those from other worlds came to call them, remain true to their nature. They still have a fondness for gambling and stealing, and will come through a Planar Gate if the city contains a Gambling House. Their eyes remain bound but it does not hinder them, and they are even able to detect shadows and other hidden units.

You're starting to sound like me. A bit smarmy and enjoying it. :p

Wait, so the reveler has the ability to reveal units? My pun sense is tingling.

i bet he'll party some houses down, make search for the local "incense" and then go to the local "corn fields" for some "fun"

Nope; it's 1-((1-5%)^2) to get 1, the other, or both, which is 1-95%^2 = 1-90.25% = 9.75%. With 7 it would be 1-(95%^7), or roughly 30.166% to get at least 1.

 I'd love to see a game where the Sheaim are following the Order and having angels and Law Bringers gate in to kill demons.

Does the AI understand that it needs to build the Elegy of the Sheim ritual and generally try to raise the Armageddon count?
