Hi, this is a replica of the old one just with the poll ;) , please specify why you prefer the game you do, oh and feel free to chat about them

Hardly anyone at CFC has played either of the two games, let alone both. :p

I love both games, but Fire Emblem takes it here. From a gameplay standpoint, Advance Wars has a lot of strategy involving masses while Fire Emblem deals more with strategy regarding endurance of a few strong characters against millions of grunt opponents. That said, Advance Wars has way more strategy, particularily the sequel, with the cannons and all that good stuff. Fire Emblem sort of winds down to simply getting characters leveled and powerful as fast as possible. Not that it's a bad thing, as I have discussed often times before whether X character is better than Y despite contrary belief.

For graphics, I like Advance Wars better. As awesome as some of the battle animations are, you just can't beat the Green Earth Infantry in their trenchcoats being blasted away by rocket artilery.

The storyline is the main reason why I love Fire Emblem so much. There's around 40 characters in the game, last time I checked, and every character has a distinct personality and backstory. Some are more interesting than others, and a few characters I absolutely despise. Best part is the support pairing of couples. I love discussing about those. Storyline in Advance Wars is generic, as is the characters, but character designs in both are really good.

For music, Fire Emblem wins by far. If Fire Emblem had an official OST, I would own it. Unfortunately, no such thing exists. Advance Wars does have quite a few catchy tunes, however. Sound effects are superb in both.

Lastability, Advance Wars has better multiplayer, but it gets frustrating since it's a TBS. But with the warroom and map editor adds to lastability significantly.

So yeah, although I love both games, I find Fire Emblem to be slightly better.

I have played both. I'll agree with you that I like the leveling up of units in Fire Emblem, but the problem is that if you like certain units, they still may not be as good. If your favorite unit in Fire Emblem is a big macho dude and you don't like all the archers or whatnot, too bad for you. All the agility causes some people to go way earlier than others, which is annoying because your units you want to power up may come at the very end of the turn and you hopefully don't want them to have anything to face or it means your other guys didn't do the job.

Try to use the character names next time, it makes it easier to understand. ;)

It's never hard to specifically level up someone, just keep the rest behind and throw the guy out in the open. Sure, the guy might die causing you to hold down LRAB in frustration, but it was worth a shot. :p

I played Fire Emblem, and didn't bother to finish, halfway thru the game... :p

Just not into games anymore, and the need to 'balance-power-up' the whole party is tedious...

i like them in different ways, i prefer fire emblems gameplay but wish there was a skirmish mode instead of the arena multiplayer as it's annoying having to redo the story just for a real battle!

The one thing that's annoying (a;though realistic) is that if a character dies in a fight they are gone forever! I have to restart a level sometimes if i foolishly charge someone in on there own... it would be nice to "buy" them back before a fight-you could find a medic like the fortune teller

I've played them both, and i think that Advance Wars is much much harder than Fire Emblem and requires more strategy and reloading than Fire Emblem.

I agree. In Fire Emblem you are forced to turn the game off (LRAB as stated) because you lose a unit. In Advanced Wars you turn off because you die. Don't worry about a single man, but about all of them. That's hard!

Oh come on, the permanant death part of Fire Emblem is what gave it strategy! Okay, it did get annoying at times, especially when the RNG decides to play tricks on you. But still, it forces you to not take as large risks and suicide people blindly like you can in Advance Wars. Although I guess the suiciding in Advance Wars gives it more strategy, as you have to accomodate the technique score (despite the fact that can be raised by simply mass producing infantry).

I like Advance Wars, because it's one of those rare random destruction games with a story! Plus it's so much better. That's because I haven't played Fire Emblem. Fire Emblem is sorta like Final Fantasy, from what I've heard. Advance Wars is more like Civilization. Both comparisons are excellent, but I've only played Advance Wars. That's my two bits.
