Before I was planning to stick with Firefox 0.8 because I heard bad things about 0.9, but due to things outside my control (involves a very nasty virus and a recovery disc) I have Firefox 0.9 now. Then again, I'm not even sure that makes a difference.

Anyways, I can't seem to be able to display other languages on this browser, most namely Chinese. I went to Tools -> Options -> Languages... and what next? If anyone could help me in this that would be great.

Go View->Character Encoding.

Most simplified chinese sites written by chinese use some GB variant (GB2312, GB18030 etc), most traditional Chinese sites written by Chinese use BIG5, whereas many Chinese sites (simplified/traditional) written by foreigners use utf-8.

It's just a matter of playing around to find what works (though the sooner the word adopts utf-8, the better). e.g. if you set your encoding to GBXXX then you should see this ÄãºÃ (nihao) without any problem.

Okay, I'm messing around with the character encoding but I can't seem to get any Chinese characters to display. All I get is different sized question marks...

Hmm... did the virus wipe out or corrupt any of your fonts?

Show me a page that's giving you problems.

I reformatted the harddrive. I was pretty much forced to, the virus shut down all external hardware, cutting off the internet connection and leaving my files there stranded, because the CD burner died as well. I guess I better backup my files from now on.

Perhaps I need to download some extension or another... I better look into it.

Yeah, that's what I figured after I looked at my fonts folder. Well, thanks for your help anyway. :)
