Turn 290: 1840AD - Diplomatic

Played on a small map as Mongolia because I heard they are arguably the easiest civ to play as. Rest of the settings were Continents/standard time.

I started off with 12 horses in my vicinity and the Fountain of Youth. The Fountain is pretty gamebreaking but I would say the 10 happiness from it was more OP than the healing. With an early Keshik rush I didn't take much damage.

Anyways, I used my GE on the Hagia and then another for Notre Dame (PT was taken).

The first city was the hardest for me to take. India's capitol with 36ish defense + great wall. The reward was too good for me to pass though. He had a weak military and my reward was the PT, forbidden palace(Built the turn that i took it :D), great wall, and Himeji Castle. After that I steamrolled my continent, leaving 2 cities for india and 1 for the Ottomans (His Sipahi gave my Keshiks a lot of problems at first).

Originally I was going to go for a Stealth Bomber rush like in most LPs I watched but 1 opponent hit modern before I was out of Renaissance. Also I got over 5000 gold from India in a peace deal, so I switched to a diplomatic victory focus. I probably could had pulled out a domination victory but I felt like I had a better chance at diplomacy.

I got beat to the UN by 3 turns but it didn't matter, I allied every single CS and had 9k gold to spare. Only one person built apollo & 0 parts.

I want to thank the community, especially the ones who make LP videos. They really help in figuring out what you're doing wrong and how to do better.

What I learned:
Early domination of your continent is essential for the long run of the game. It allowed me to keep pace with gold and science to some extent.

Congratulations! Even with the fountain of youth, Deity is still never "easy"! It just needs you to play carefully and methodically to win.

Nicely done! I'm hoping to join you soon.

Like the post above, winning on Deity isn't easy, even with the fountain. Good work!

Good Job!

My only Deity victory was with Denmark on a Archipelago map. So, a lot easier than yours. Congratz!

Yeah thanks guys. I might try another Keshik rush on a Pangaea map. I only did continents because I thought a good strategy would be to take my continent and save the other for Stealth Bombers. The problem with this was that I was expecting 1 civ on the other continent to kill off the others, and also neither of their capitol cities were coastal, so I would have to keep the cities I ninjaed with stealth bombers/embarkation and I would have to do it to 2 civs.

The only thing I am worried about Pangaea is getting ganged up on at any point in time. Its easier when 1/2 the civs stay friendly with you the whole time because your land isn't touching or something stupid like that.

Hey dude, I just win a deity game a couple days ago with the mongols also. It was on a standard world and a pangea. I conquer the whole pangea (execpt Askia that I kill with archers and warrior/scout) with keshik rush (10 of them hads the 2 attack per turn/ +1 range and indirect target promotions) helped by horsemen until I hit military tradition (cavalry) and combustion (tank). Even against infantry, my keshiks were still very usefull (making at least one dammage every attack and sometimes 2 or 3). During all that game, i only lost one of them (kill by a lancer that have 4 mp) and never had to heal them up. I took city that had more then 80 of defense just by bombarding it with keshik army, and when the city was down to 1 hp, took it with wathever unit can reach the city (horsemen, cavalry or tank). During the whole game, I almost never built melee unit nor catapult or artillery unit (since the city-state ally with me provided me with that much more than I needed). All that to says, that the keshik units is just too strong (by the way, you dont have penality when attacking city, witch is the norm with other archer or horsemen) and can be usefull long after the ai reach the industrial era if you use it wisely (i never try the mongols in a mp game, but im sure they wont be as usefull as in a sp game).

Anyways congratz for the diplomatic win!!!

Nice one! And to think I still have trouble winning on Prince...

Don't sweat it, I was playing at Prince myself only a few months ago, before I found this site. If you read the Strategy board a lot and watch some of the LP videos it drastically improves your game. I was able to beat Deity in a few months since then.

When I first watched the LP videos, I kept thinking of how silly the things they were doing were. For example, I couldn't understand why someone would take so long to determine their next techs. I understood the median system right away but what did not occur was how important it really is.

I still can't believe people sell cities on Deity. I can't get myself to do that yet. It goes against every Civ instinct I've ever had since II.
