Hey guys, this is my first time posting here. I've been playing Civ games for over a decade, and have had Civ III for years, but always noticed this issue and thought I might as well get an answer about it.

Anyway, I'm playing a game on a huge map with every Civ (16 I think?). Anyway, at the start of the game I met several civs, enough to fill up my "Diplomacy screen" (where it shows your head and all the other Civ leader heads arranged in a circle).
Eventually, several of the civs I had contacted were destroyed, so now there were only a few other Civs on the diplomacy screen.

As the game progressed, I met several other civs on the other side of the world. I've even established trade routes and so on with them, but for some reason, their leader's heads wont show up on the diplomacy screen! I'm just left with the original civs I contacted first in the game. There's even several other spaces on the diplomacy with room for the new civs, but they won't show up.

This is extremely annoying because not only do I have to sail a unit across the world and get within a space of their units to actually start negotiating, but I also don't have the benefit of knowing what treaties they have with other civs and what deals can be worked out.

I hope this wasn't too confusing, and I appreciate any and all help.

Thanks!

On the diplomacy screen there should be a button in the top left marked "more civs". It lets you replace heads already there with other ones. The diplomacy screen can hold max eight, but you can choose which ones this way. (You can even choose where they're displayed.) The little button marked "D" in the lower right on the main screen lets you contact any civ directly.

Welcome to CFC!

The "more civs" button is a feature of the Conquest expansion.

In all versions of the game, on the F4 screen, you can shift-right-click on a leader's portrait to bring up a list of alternative portraits. There is also shift-D (I believe) that will bring up a separate diplomacy screen. Clicking on the "D" on the bottom right corner of the screen should work as well.

I'd check your folders to make sure the leaderheads are there. Go to C Drive then program files then infogrames interactive then civ 3 then your version (ptw vanilla conquests) and go to art or animation.

This isn't his problem. He's complaining about only 8 civs being displayed on the foreign advisor screen.

Yes it is one of the very annoying features of CivIII that it is not easy to see all the civs at one glance and see the relationships.

That alone is a good reason to use Conquest/ Just to at least have the plain option to swap out one civ for another. but that is not nearly enough. Imagine 31 civs, ouch.

at the bottom right portion of the screen where information is displayed about a selected unit there are five possible buttons. From top to bottom. D E H P S
Diplomacy Espionage Histiograph Palace View and Space Race
Click on dipomacy to get choices of all the civs to talk

Now I'm not sure what the figure is but i think when six civs of the original eight have been destroyed and their are only eight civs overall remainuing the remaining civs take their place on the screen.

In Vanilla Civ, which it sounds like you're using, right-clicking on a leaderhead frame will give you the option of swapping that civ for another one that's not displayed. You have to do this as well for any civs that get eliminated; the game won't automatically fill it's place with another civ in the frame.

It's Shift-Right Click :)

Shift-D brings up a list of all Civs contacted and tells you whether you are at war or peace. Click one to initiate diplomacy.

Actually, the button is also available in PTW. It's in mine that has the lastest patch (Civ gold edition).
