i have the setting on huge, pangea, arid, cool, and 3 billion years old. just because i wanted too.

anyways i was wondering if my start was good or if i should have done something different?

Cant get much from this photo, care to post a save?

I think you have too less workers. The Eastern part of your empire seems a bit far away.

Your Start position seems Unique in that you are defended by mountains all around, Restricting your Empire but providing good defensive position

In this situation, you should settle on top of hills, or on desert tiles right next to gras tiles to leave as many grass tiles free to be worked by citizens.
For this purpose, I can see more room around your capital where you can plant cities.

Once you leave despotism, you can irrigate the grass to compensate for the citizens working the desert, hills and mountains.

Ugh! That is one ugly map. If you are moving up from Warlord, you have a definite challenge ahead. That huge band of desert will definitely hamper expansion that way. The jungle will be grass someday, but will require many thousands of worker turns to become useful. My recommendation is many workers. Many, many workers.

i just switched to monarchy. i'm thinking about starting a war with the aztecs to my north.i love the chinese. i'm going to get chivalry and give montezuma hell.

i was going to declare on america but thanks to them i'm no longer working a deflicit and i got a new luxury.

on the histograph i'm number two behind babylon.

i'm ahead of everyone in tech.

but i'm number two in land area. but i'm ot worried cause i just built two new cities(one of which you can't see) and those computers use a loose city placement.

anyways this is going better than i thought it would.:)

how do you post a save?

Here is a picture of the upload system, you access it through the manage attachment feature on the advanced reply page. It looks like this:

As far as your game is going, looks good. Just watch Gandhi, he can be the worst backstabber, you might want to get the Indians before they get Chivalry and War Elephants, they require no resources and are like Ancient Cavalry on steroids. India also tends to be technologically advanced and a tough neighbor to live with. So says me, playing as India in my personal game:lol: I hate playing against them so much that I decided to be them.

I thought the same thing as Overseer when I looked at that map. That's brutal. You have the Sahara to your west and the Amazon mixed with the Rocky Mountain Way to the north.

And about 10% grassland.

Uggh. You have your work cut out for you.

Man, and I see some incense out there in that desert, but I can't map an easy water source to irrigate. You could from the south-center, but you would have to work around them hills.

Unless there's a source off camera.

If you win this one, and stick with it - get yourself a steak dinner.

:king:

I see you continued to build more cities on grass tiles, or flood plain tiles, instead of desert or hills right next to it. This is OK if there is enough food around anyway, but some of those cities, will not be able to grow to size 12 now. and some of those are core cities.

i declared on india instead. they were weaker and had better land. i'm finishing them off now, they have 3-5 cities and no infrastructure. there are archers everywhere. they didn't have iron and i stole their horses.

edit:

and whats left of india. they have one city left. its surronded by mountains and to far away to be of any use. the aztecs are next. and i'm going to start settling the desert for future oil.

You got nice grass territory from India :), but why build spearmen here? It is very slow, and regular units arent efficient anyway. You probably should make workers here and let your core cities make military. Btw I saw some regular swords on the screenshot. You really should build barracks first. The difference between regulars and veteran units is huge.

@Sweetchuck: Bringing fresh water through hills is possible: you just need to settle on the hill (and asder did :)). However irrigating desert should not be the first priority: a simple road and a lone scientist city to get the incense is more than enough.

asder2 are you still visiting the boards? If so, how did you make out on this game?

You might want to spend some more time with the war academy to get a better knowledge of game machanics.

  • The capitol has (nearly) no corruption, but you build a courthouse.
  • You micromanagement sucks big time. You employ clowns you don't need.
  • You build a temple, when you should build a market or library.
  • You did not get for the luxuries to increase happiness.
  • You have plenty of money, but no embassies.
  • You don't give the city building the FP all the shields it deserves.
  • You did not trade maps enough, getting AIs' money.
  • Quite some of your workers are not used to best effiency.
  • You build units in non-barracked cities (and useless temples in cities with barracks).
And as already said, you have and build far too many defensive units.

Do you have a starting or "early" save to post?
