Would it be an idea to make a "First Strike" rule?

As a way to bypass SDI defences which all but eliminates the nuklear threat, maybe SDI should only be like 30% or 40% effective in the first turn of a war. That way a cold war is more horrific.

What do you guys think of that idea?

SDI is way too overpowered, I agree.

yeah it seems as soon as i get a nuke everybody and his dog has SDI, what about making it so each civ has to research a special tech to create SDI?

My problem is the stupid UN Resolution that prevents everyone from building nukes. But yea, I think SDI should be effective the first turn of a war, then after that, it should become less effective. Or there shoudl be a way to overpower SDI, by which I mean fire so many nukes that it simply cant shoot them all down.

Buncha mini-Hitlers in here it would seem... :p

Not just enough to conquer your enemies.. gotta incinerate a few million of their countrymen too, eh? ;)

Too bad it's not a very accurate idea... after all, the whole point of SDI is that if a missile fires, the system shoots it down... doesn't matter on when the missile is fired. If anything, the effectiveness should only be based on the distance between the launch point and the target and also maybe SDI could be something that's built in stages gradually increasing its effectiveness... I mean, if its satellites in space using lasers, you have to put the satellites up there, right? And the system would be a lot less effective with half that number of satellites...

And if MAD gets modded into the game, it would be even less realistic to have "first strike" give a run around that.
