Is this a known bug? I somehow ended up with two civs called Maya.
In setting up the game had all civs on Random.
CivAssit doesn't like it - that program keeps bombing when I try to load it for that saved game.

I seemed to recall seeing that issues, not sure if it was Conquest or PTW. What version and patch level are you using?

Am playing CivIII Complete, Conquests. This is the first time I tried using Snoopy's terrain mod that is in the Civ Content
Also, just noticed that when I set up a game using that option that only some of the Civ's are displayed in the setup screen, not all of them. Wonder if that has something to do with this.

I never have used Snoopy's, but it should be fine. Check to see if it needs to go in the C3 Art folder and not the higher level Conquest. I do not know how they are named in Complete, but they should have there own folders as stuff in Conquest does not all apply to C3 or PTW.

Edit: I would expect terrain stuff to be at the lowest level (C3).

Snoopy came as an extra with PTW and not with Conquests. I don't have Complete and didn't even know that Snoopy was in there as well, but perhaps the original bix. file, as it came with PTW, hasn't been properly adjusted to Conquests.

Look in your 'Scenarios' folder; there should be 2 files in there called Snoopy's; one looking like an ordinary folder, having an art folder in it, and in that folder sits the terrain (probably as well some different cities and resources), and the other one, looking like the game symbol.
What you could do is open up the one with the game symbol and check whether all the Conquests civs are mentioned in there. Probably only the Vanilla and PTW civs are mentioned, and this would explain the problems.
What you could do is to overwrite or replace that file with the main game file. The file should have been a duplicate of the main file anyway, as the only difference of Snoopy's is the terrain, not the game rules.

Well the Snoopy terran folder is found in the Scenarios folder of PTW. Not in the Scenarios folder of Conquests. Yet you can selct it in the Civ Contents listed in Conquests. So as you suggest, that must be what is causing the problems with missing civs.

Civ-Content usually will have mod/scenarios. They will have their own art folder that will over ride lower level items. This is how you get special units and resources and such.

Are you seeing this, when playing a regular epic game or just from a content game.

I've had 3 Hittites...

Sorry I'm not sure of the difference.

What I did was go into Civ-Content and select the Snoopy Terrain. Once I did that the same screens pop up as when starting a new game. I had to select size of world, age of world, what civ I was playing, etc.

Maybe it was just a mere coincidence that I had a duplicate Mayan civ when I first tried out the terrain mod.

In any case, it wouldn't have mattered to me much except that Civ Assist II kept crashing everytime I tried starting it after the second Mayan civ appeared. I've grown too dependent on that utility program as it saves me from doing a lot of extra-clicking later on in the game.

I do not see anything for snoopy in the scenario folder in C3C or even PTW nor C3. Maybe it is Complete only.

Maybe Snoopy came with PTW Gold, but not yet with ordinary PTW.
Sorry I'm not sure of the difference.
I think VMXA is asking if you also have problems when choosing 'New Game', or only when choosing a scenario from 'CivContent'. I think you already said you only noticed it when choosing this scenario.

What I'm curious about is whether your Snoopy terrain has volcanoes, marshes and tropical fruit. This came with Conquests. The original Snoopy's file didn't have it, because PTW didn't have all these terrain features.

The Snoopy Terrain I chose in Civ-Content was labelled 4.1x. There were volcanoes, fruit and marsh visible in the game I played. I've attached a couple of screenshots showing what they looked like

Well, clearly this was meant to be compatible with Conquests then. You would only get things like volcanoes if you have both graphics and game rules for them.
If there's something wrong with the biq., like civilizations missing, then you could put a copy of the main game biq. in its place, like I suggested earlier, but this would only help a new game, not a game already started up.
CivAssist is compatible with both PTW and Conquests, that's not the problem, but CivAssist obviously doesn't like two civs with the same name.

The terrain is a compilation of different versions of Snoopy; the water is Snoopy nr 2, the base terrain original Firaxis, but made a lttle greener, and overlays like mountains and trees are later versions of Snoopy.
You could, if you really like this terrain, also choose to put it in place of your default terrain folder - maybe rename that folder to 'terrain-original' or so. Then you would get it if you start up a normal game.

ive had 2 dutch for some reason....

I've used Snoopy's for some time, downloaded from this site, never had the problem of multiple civs. Maybe it was placed in the wrong folder. Mine is in the Civ3 art folder, not the Conquests art folder.

In my eyes this is a problem, triggered by the option to select random civs for a game, not by choosing a special mod. That´s why I always use pre-selected civs when starting a new game.

Some thoughts about SnOOpie´s terrain: If you use another terrain-set, the files that are included in the new set overwrite the still existing terrain-files of the original set. So if a terrain-set doesn´t include special terrain graphics, the still existing standard graphics of C3C are used (p.e. volcanos and so on).

Yes, I think you are right about the random civ option being the real culprit. I usually select the opponents I want to play against.

And you are correct about the old and new terrain. When I looked over the marsh terrain, for example, it was the orginal and not the new Snoopy version.

Snoopy's terrain is very beautiful to look at, but I've gone back to the original. Guess I was getting too distracted by how different the game looked.

That is true, and a good amendment to what I said. The game biq. would find the files in the default folders if it didn't find them in the scenario folders.
But would that also work for the tropical fruit? That is not a file, but only part of a file, namely the resources.pcx file. That could be different, I think.

I always play with random civs, and I've never had the problem.
I just browsed through the thread of bug reports, and the strange thing is that you won't find anything there about this, although I'm sure I've seen it being mentioned somewhere before.
It might be helpful if the people that said they have experienced it as well could mention when it happened. Like in which version of the game did it happen, or whether it happened while playing a scenario or playing the random game? To create some sort of reference about this bug would be helpful.
