Flanking

Veteran status really didn't mean much. Plus its boring. Now, at least your 'veteran' gets to stand a better chance either all around - or a much better chance specialized. (Shock, Pinch)
really? in civ2 vet status gave a 50% bonus to attack and defense. sure, it's pretty boring and useless.

I gotta say, after playing Civ3 again recently, I can't give much credit to the warring/combat systems in it (i guess Civ2 used a similar system).

You randomly get 'promoted' to veteran/elite status? ugh... And I could never tell if my unit won a battle he was defending in unless I turn off fast movement. Uniques simply had increased combat/defense/or movement. Boring...

I dunno, maybe I'm just used to Civ 4.

What king of player are you? You know that you don't need to turn on fast movement, you can just press shift or the caps lock...

I am the kingest king of all players. ;)

The combat in Civ3 sucked. Plain and simple. Random promotions? lame.

Again, I might just be used to Civ4 combat. The idea of planned promotions and the ability to specialize units is so much better IMO. In C3, once you hit "elite" status, all you could do to boost the unit was upgrade to a more modern unit. It's personal opinion and to me, combat in Civ4 is 1000x better.
