Fleet Speeds depends on...

... and this is really puzzling:

1.) If you have damaged ships in your fleet, or not enough men, your fleet speed will be reduced on the "campaign map".

2.) the type of ships does not matter, not affecting speed at all?

3.) regardless if your flagship is a Royal Sloop or a lame War Galleon cruising against the wind, it does not matter (?)

4.) so I assume, fleet speed is only based on one thing: damage of sails / hull and crewlevel.

5.) But if you have 7 100% perfect ships and one badly damaged, will the badly damaged ship slow down the whole fleet?

I think and got the impression: YES.

So I came to the following conclusions:

Fleet Speed is based on

- Navigation skill bonus
- various instruments related to Navigation
- you must have enough crew
- less crewmen gives a penalty
- the speed of your badliest damaged ship

--> but obviously not on ship type.

Does anyone agree, can someone confirm these observations or did you get other insights?

Well,

Fleet Speed is based on

- Navigation skill bonus
- various instruments related to Navigation
- you must have enough crew
- less crewmen gives a penalty
- the speed of your badliest damaged ship

AND
on ship type depending on wind.

With optimal wind there is nearly no difference.
If you have to sail against the wind then there is the difference. Smaller flagships will provide more fleetspeed. Try to use a treasure galleon agaist a indian vessel and you will see what i mean.

Then there is the "Wait for me" thing. If one of the ships doesn't have cotton sails, and the flagship has them, you will get that often. You will also get it if the sailing points for the trailing ships are different from the flagship, if one of the ships are damaged, and if the flagship catches wind from a storm, but the other ships do not.

Since there are no subcategories for this game on this forum, I guess this is as good a place as any to ask these questions.

Speaking of ship speed...anybody notice a slowdown whenever another ship comes close to your fleet...(God forbid more then one -DANG Canoes :ar15: )

Speaking of which...Does anybody know what the purpose of the war canoes is/are? (other than the obvious Indians on the warpath) I mean I have played this game for about a week straight, at least 14 hours a day and have yet to attack one or feel the need for that matter. I have yet to see a purpose in the Indian villages. Aren't they just a less colorful version of a pirate hangout? Don't they amount to the same thing?
and...FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, WILL YOU QUIT ASKING ME IF I WANT TO ATTACK EVERY &*%*&%$ SHIP that crosses paths with me. Isn't that what that blinking #5 button is for? :wallbash:

and while I'm at it...could somebody make the ship improvements display on the fleet status screen a little clearer...like say a box for each improvement...I spent six months trying to get to a city to buy chain shot only to realize that I already had it on my whole fleet, it was just so jumbled up on the fleet screen I didn't realize I already had it. MORE--> :wallbash:

Speaking of jumbled screens...is it just me, or does the shipwright info box cover the front of every ship making them all look like boxes (drawn with crayon no less)...yes,yes I know if you squint really hard you can see through it..but not enough to really tell its a ship.IMHO. :twitch:

lets not forget that your sail emblem only shows on the front the small ships, I cant figure why my larger vessels with HUGE sails don't have any emblems showing...MORE---> :wallbash:

Also, Ive noticed that if I escort a governor or migrants to a town/city/whatever that the city gets better in some way or another but apparently all the other times these ships seem to have very little to no effect on the town or city they visit...seems that way anyways cuz I'm seeing ships all over the place and none of the cities I visit seem to have grown/improved at all.

All in all, I like the game alot...probably the best game Ive ever played...although whomever decided on the player getting old either never played the game or doesn't like to play it very long.. I mean come on by the time your good at dancing or dueling your too old for it to do any good, lol Oh well, Thank God for Trainers :goodjob:

Looking forward to the next version...GO ROWBOATS! :mischief:
