For those who are curious about if Religion is going to be in Civ5...

So, I was taking a quick search through some of the XML files for Civ5, & I came across the following tags in Civ5Buildings:

Code:
<Column name="FoundsReligion" type="boolean" default="false"/>
		<Column name="IsReligious" type="boolean" default="false"/>

Now, I realize its not a lot to go on, but I think it is some cause for hope ;)! Even if its not, it will make adding religion a lot easier for modders if the various tags are already there!

Indeed, there are also table entries for non-state Religion :mad:, etc. I've seen posted some datamined religious images too (appears that there were 8 religions). It seems like Religion was cut rather late in development.

Still, if they decided to cut it late, then that means the tools are there for us to bring it back ;)! The Resurrection of Religion-you can't get much more religious than that :D.

Jon said in one of the interviews religions like Civ4 were in but dropped during dev.

Plus, Civ5 stems from Civ4 code, so you gotta expect to see some of that. :)

All true, but some of the code relating to religion is *different* to what was in Civ4. Also, the fact that its still there does give us some hope that it might get revisited. Like I said, though, the presence of these tags will make it easier for Modders to put it back in ;)!

For me personally, the religion that is already in the game is good enough. I made a post about it here http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89481&highlight=religion

If individual religions are put into the game then I want see each broad religion broken up into sects and denominations to set the stage for the various wars found within the broad religions.

It didn't make sense for Christian nations to be more friendly with each other when they have historically fought one another more often than not. Same applies with the Islamic religion.

Also Hinduism, as it's more or less representing not just the Hindus but all pantheons.

Necro!

Not as good as the nine-year necro we got in OT, but a seven month necro is still good.

Religions were dropped because the devs didn't want religion itself to have an impact on diplomacy. For all of the code currently in the game regarding religion, none of it is connected to Diplomacy - so the only impact of initializing it would be bonuses to wealth and Happiness. There would be no boost to AI relationships - and the Dev's realized that this whole mechanic just felt arbitrary and inconsequential without a diplomatic connection. This is why religion was removed from the game as it essentially boiled down to buildings with religious names that gave bonuses without any sense of immersion.

They explain these reasons in this podcast. Worth a listen - these polycast podcasts are great.

say what? what language are you speaking?

edit: Oh, you're talking about necromancing. Well, the topic re-emerged because it is speculated that religion will be in the next new patch.

yes something to this effect;
