For those without the game, this is for you

Looks like you painted white onto the screen you edited rather than cropping it. Dunno how paint handles it, but in the program I know (photoshop) you have to select the area you want to keep and then find "crop" in a menu.

On the game, maybe it's just my ingraned civ3 habits but I get a voice screaming "expand, build another city" in my head. No idea where though, and I might be wrong about the timing anyway.

London builds a second settler, and my warrior escort leaves with it. I start work on another worker, so the future York will be terraformed right away. I will found York on the red dot on the map.

Okay, I am playing with 6 civs (Asoka, Napoleon, whoever you spell the other Chinese leader's name, Huayna Capac, and Kublai Khan). I set it to 2 continents, and here is our starting location. Pretty tricky, as the AI-approved possible city locations are several moves away. :(

I wish I could remove my desktop background from the screenshot, and make it bigger. Anyone know how? But we have a problem: where to build that first city. Any suggestions?
Press Alt and print screen and it will onl show the active window ie civ!

Looks good, but are those floodplains to the NW? Might be worth grabbing in the near future.

Yes, but the red dot was closer to reach and adjacent to an "ideal" city location, as the AI progamming calls it. I know there are no immediate expansion threats up there, I haven't found Napoleon yet, but there could always be a civ to the east. But that will be my third city location, then I will expand to the coast at will, with it protected with the revised border concept.

Here is a pic of York

Makes sense, though it looks like you'll need a culture expansion before the coast is completely blocked off. I'm still having trouble remembering that the AI has to respect your borders in Civ4. ;)

I'm stilling having trouble remembering how settlers and workers are produced in Civ IV. Right now I am considering building Stonehenge. I am about to hook up with stone once building a mine, that will double production speed of the wonder. Does that sound like a good idea, Corbeau? Remember, I am (trying) to playing this game for you all who don't have it yet. I am accepting all suggestions now (I sort of tuned out, a classic trait of mine as a civ addict).

Kublai Khan greets me, and he is coming from the west. My next move will be to establish a city right in the middle of the jungle near the unexplored squares somewhere. I need to block the Mongols in/out (whichever it is).

Oh, and also, my newer scouting warrior awakens hostile barbarians from the goody hut, so I guess that unit is in trouble. I think I'm going to stop for the night soon, just so I can pick up the game when some of the early posters are back to watch some more.

u have a Holy CIty right? get some open borders and send out missionaries!

No, I Must Know More, Keep Playing!!!

Stonehenge is mostly cultural and religious (prophets?), right? While culture is always nice, you haven't gotten a religion yet have you? That would seem to minimize the benefit, though I guess if you think you'll get a religion soon then it won't matter.

Part of this is I simply don't know how easy it is to get a religion. Still, cheap wonders never hurt if you've got the chance. What would be the alternative in terms of builds? If you don't think you'll have a war on your hands early, and if you feel confident that the bonus will be useful, go for the wonder (IMO).

Stonehenge is pretty cheap, and I'm getting stone in just two or three turns, that will halve the cost. And when I do build it, I will get Great Prophets soon enough, and I can unlock probably the final tech I need to found Christianity and spread it to the Mongols and French, I think I'm going for turn rivals into friends, not making any enemies. Right now I am still developing a strategy, and sitll waiting for feedback and or gameplay requests, but in general I am leaning towards cultural improvements.

On the next turn I founded Judaism (I was heading for a later tech because I thought the early religions would be gone, but there are only five other civs and I could've have checked by religious advisor).

I can now change my research path and get to work on a settler then missionary. Oh, by the way, York was made the holy city. I would have been thrilled at that, as London was already pretty big culturally. However, near the NW foodplains blue borders all of the sudden pop up. If London was the holy city, it could expand more (soon enough, not right away though) and push back the French. Napoleon is expanding near by border, however, I do still have lots of room to grow my own empire. Things are still looking good, no immediate danger and at least 4 city spots ready to be taken with no rivals around. :)

Basic update on my civilization. I will complete Stonehenge in 4 turns, and Archery in 3 turns. Once my first wonder is complete, I will construct a missionary and go off to convert the Mongols. They are more likely to sneak attack, being in a good position to so and the most likely timing would take place just as they are building Keshiks. I think in the near future me and Kublai will take on Napoleon.

I don't have a state religion yet, 'cause I don't have the tech. I expect Judaism to spread to London in 1 or 2 turns. 4 of my civics are all the basic ones (Despotism, Barbarism, Decentralization, and Paganism). However, I have adopted Slavery, but not really used it's population sacrific rushing beneift, however, it's upkeep is the same as the basic Labor civic Tribalism.

I'll catch a pic of my missionary converting the Mongols, the wonder movie, and the wonder in the city, all in just a few minutes, so stick around.

EDIT: Hello, grohyt. I am glad you are enjoying it, and that I can be at all entertaining to those unlucky enough to not yet have the game (how hard is it to release a game worldwide on the same day?!).

It strikes me that one problem with missionaries is that they require open borders, which would compromise your border-blocking scheme (if that still matters). I'd say go for a settler quick to grab a spot on those flood plains before you get muscled out completely! Oh, and probably a bit of military. Even as a peaceful civ, having a military is useful for porcupine diplomacy (IE, looking nasty enough that no one wants to pick on you). Matters even more if you intend to take on nappy in an offensive war.

See if you have any luck spreading Judaism naturally. If that doesn't work, negotiate open borders and get converts. Also, open borders will make them like you more, even before you convert them.

Okay, update for you all. The French have moved in on my land that I thought I could settle at will. After producing Stonehenge I set London on making a settler, as well as York. I will then stake a claim up north and out west, halting French expansion (or so I hope). Here is a shot of the Stonehenge wonder movie

Here is a shot of Stonehenge as seen on the map. The way you can see what is actually in a city is a wonderful feature of Civ IV.
