Former British Primeminister Sir Edward Heath dies

2005 is a bad year for former Prime Ministers. James Callaghan only passed away in March.

RIP Sir Edward Heath, the man who bought Britain into the EEC.

.

He claimed that his comments "Rejoice. Rejoice" when Thatcher was ousted were misquoted.

He actually said it three times. :goodjob:

Was that mainly bitterness about the political battle he lost when Maggie entered the field, or did he seriously think the Iron Lady screwed up that hard?

Both.

He was lifelong opponent of Thatcherism. Me too.

RIP, everyone who dies.

Of course he was a Tory Prime Minister. But he was ousted from leadership by Thatcher who promptly threw out a lot of his policies. He refused to serve in her cabinet and they were enemies from that point onwards.

My condolences. It is a dark year for Britain. In many respects :(

I wonder if he would have pushed to enter the EU, if the UK had never joined, and he was PM today.

The thing that amuses me is that politically he was to the left of Tony Blair on most issues too which shows how far to the right our current "Labour" government really is ;)

A decent man and a staunch anti-fascist who campaigned against appeasement with Germany in the 1930's, served his country in WWII and fired Enoch Powell after the infamous "Rivers of Blood speech".

.

He was a man of great integrity and beliefs he held firmly from which he never wavered.
Ok, so mabye I stole that from Tony Blair..........

Agreed with extremely few of his policies and actionsm but certainly RIP and condolences to his yacht.
