Fox-03 -- Trying to be Special

Deepest apologies, gentlemen. My wife hijacked me tonight and I had to go buy a new car. If you wish to skip me, I'd have no hard feelings. Though I can promise a report in 12 hours from this post if you don't.

Again, sorry.

He's just been spamming his brains out to get to 1000 posts. Now he's got it, he's lost interest... :p

Actually, I'm on deck and can't play in at least 12 hours so he may as well play first.

@Kikinit : who you said was on deck ?:ar15:
And yes, this SG has a bunch of brand new emperors. Stop the :nospam: already :D

@Grey : I am already up in another SG so I can live with a delay

I blame rex for my error... He takes so long to play that I assumed that I must be up next.

Always easier to blame someone else than admit your own error.

Gentlemen,

My turns went well. The general summary is that I razed Xian, captured Orleans, and captured Lyons. All with very little loss of life. Alex captured Paris (bastard).

Two Great Prophets were born during my turnset. The first built Solomon's Temple in Orleans and the second is hanging around Karakorum. He and our artist can start a golden age, if we want. Or we can merge him and culture bomb Orleans or Lyon.

On the science front, Corporation came in and I studied up on Assembly Line. This came in on my last turn and I didn't yet change productions in our PROD cities to factories. I began studying Fascism for police state, but I don't think any beakers are yet invested, so feel free to change this.

All my worker actions were leap-frog railroad building and most of our cities are now on a railroad network. A Cavalry can get from Karakorum to Lyons in 3 turns. Sweet.

My builds were predominantly military, with a few missionaries thrown in. We could stand to build more missionaries, as three of mine failed. Bummer.

Regarding MM, I realized early that we have too many cities, so I turned on governors and emphases for all but about three of our cities. Things are flowing well and we're really starting to turn it on in terms of GNP, Production, and Food.

Lastly, WW is getting huge. I had played with the culture slider. Ultimately spending most of my turns at 10% culture, 50% science. My last two turns saw some major angry again, so I built more jails.

Now for pictures:

I love how Wissensee is specializing in "Beavers". I figured we ought to at least work a beaver tile, though.

Talk about a target of opportunity:
ad1826_opportunity.jpg

Alex demanded that we cancel trades with Asoka. I accepted, but we needed to get our happiness resources from somewhere. He ripped us off, but Ivory is obsolete soon. We can cancel then.

Xian razed in 1828 with 0 loss

Orleans captured in 1830, losing 1 cavalry and 1 cannon. Both were 80%+ odds. Argh!
ad1830_orleans.jpg

Lyons taken in 1836, losing 1 grenadier. I decided to keep it as it looks like it could be a powerhouse.

Pretty good turns, capturing/razing 3 cities in 10 turns. Keep it up, guys!

Too bad about Paris. Guess that is the associated cost with having a "war ally".

Roster, to refresh your memory

Got it. Playing probably tomorrow
Good job Rex. I loaded the save and see I am in a comfortable position to keep on "wipe Louis from earth" mission.
Alex took Paris ? Too bad. I have 5 turns of revolt to pillage all around :D

OTOH, WW seems problematic. +12/13 at big cities. I think that I'll up the culture slider a bit more.

You forgettin about the Pharaohs wonder. A present from the late Qin, may he rest in peace
I thought about revolting but the cost is 2 turns of anarchy. Changing 2 civics costs the same number of anarchy turns. So I suggest to go Sci method->communism and wait for state property to revolt. Let's use the hippie way for the moment :p (culture slider). Giv'em songs and :smoke: dreams

Isn't there an exception for units in wartime at production cities?

Edit:

Fox's first post said:
Prioritized buildings means that these buildings take priority over other production in their respective cities, with the following exception:
...Units: Millitary Units for Prod City

Fox, am I understanding that wrong, or can Production cities continue with their units before switching to factories?

Pre turn :
Now that variant rules are clear, I can keep on producing troops.
The tech is switched from fascism to scientific method. Upping the slider to 20% don't give much help. Some cities are starving but no people dying yet. Let's just finish Louis and we'll be done with WW

Now up to business. I did some assignations. We have so many cities that this is no more crucial. But variant is variant : Tours goes prod

01-Tours.jpg

And Nanjing goes scientific (mainly cuz there's an academy there)

02-Nanjing.jpg

Turn 1 : Raze Chengdhu. With only a loss of 1 cannon
Continue on railroad frenzy.
I order a forbidden palace in Antium and Hordes are heading south

Turn 2 : Louis IVX signs peace with Alex and upgraded all his units to rifles
And who was waiting to see tanks in the new world ?

03-warrior.jpg

Calcutta is heavily defended and Asoka has destroyers. Ooochh. Must take him with caution. We don't have naval suprematy here. I'll be going Communism and then combustion

05-IndiaDefense.jpg

A few turns later, Asoka adopts emancipation. As all the WW was not enough to kill us. Argghhh

I start the globe theatre in Karakorum. Nothing much to build and it will be nice to keep the GP farm going at war times

Turn 6, capture the city of Rheims. I decide to keep this one as AI will be settling empty space south. I launch a culture bomb here to block India and Greece from settling south

On turn 7, Asoka declares on Louis XIV but he is a bit late. In this turn, the last french city Marseilles is razed by our forces

06-EndOfFrance.jpg

Now we can bribe Alex to declare on Asoka and then declare on ... Alex. With chance, Asoka will trade a tech or two with us.
Asoka is more advanced but Alex took a lot of cities and he will have better tech progress soon. I think that it is best to start wiping Alex if we go for conquest. That is a snapshot of his offensive forces. He was heading for a poor barb city formed in the SE. He has some scary grenadiers here:

10-tankKillingFly.jpg

Alex is also the first to settle the new world :

08-AlexInNewWorld.jpg

Another city assignment. Lyons go prod :

09-Lyons.jpg

And a grasp of the tech situation

11-techTrades.jpg

In my turns, I ordered a couple of theatres too. Munich for instance, didn't have one. They are very cheap and we need them to play with the culture slider

We are running +10gpt at 60% science. Combustion is due in 1 turn. Many options are nice next :
- Physics : free GS
- Democracy : emancipation. Asoka alreday uses it and cities may start to protest soon
- Bio : nice boost to growth and hence production

I am sorry but I forgot myself and played one turn too much.

Good job killing the french!!!! :goodjob:

Too bad, kikinit, no frog legs for you.

I think that is devious plan to get Alex to go to war with Asoka and then declare on Alex!

I am all for combustion. After that go for AssemLine. Then we win the game. No need to worry abt happiness, we can always pump up the culture.

Looks like I'm up tonight then. A bit of rebuilding turns seems due anyway. I seem to be in war a lot now.

I think we do need to get out of slavery and into emancipation before we go to war again. WW + WWE (we want emancipation) will kill us. I guess we can get AssLine first and get democracy while we are getting the infantry ready for war or in the early part of the war.

Uh, Fox? I grabbed Assembly Line in 1840.

I got it. I'll look into whether we have time to get democracy before physics or not. Biology is also good though I agree, but probably not essential to win from here.

The only thing that's essential to win, from here is to continue the steam-roller. Shift us into war civics, build jails where needed, pay Alex to attack Asoka, and pick apart whatever is left.

Asoka may have a tech lead, but that'll only make Alex's war tougher. The first ten turns of their war will see a lot of dead, hi-priced reserves. After that neither civ can keep pace with our production.
