Played 9 turns to even up the turns. Triggered a GA, built loads of factories and started on a decent army. Oh... and I started a war between Alex and Asoka at no cost to us.

Orleans is a toughie... If we were starting from scratch, I'd say science/finance with those floodplains but it's a bit late to build cottages so I'll pick production and build an army!
Oh hang on.. it's got the temple of solomon. I recall rex building that. We must have had this for a while. What's the designation? I can't be bothered reading back and it is building a bank so I'll guess blid made it financial to make the most of the shrine.

Alex can research physics too so I go for that first to try and get the free scientist.

Rabbi Akiva (Great Prophet) is born in Shanghai. WTH to do with him? Save him for a GA or the buddhist shrine in Paris that Alex hasn't bothered to build yet? Oh crap forget that, we've got another Prophet in our capital so I merge him as a superspecialist in Ghuangzhou to help speed up Wall Street and the 5gpt will become 15gpt with Wall street, bank, market and grocer.

I chose democracy next for emancipation.
The scientist is in the capital. I think a GA now is as good a time as any for it. At this stage I went to the forum to ask if we should go for a GA.
Well... at least I got one answer and I think the timing is just right with a huge building rush going on and probably our last one for this game. So I fire of a Golden Age with our 3 GP's.
I also believe that this is the time to get Alex to declare on Asoka. In about 10 turns we will be ready to attack him with Artillery and Infantry. He only has cannons and riflemen and cavalry at the moment although he has a fair number of them. I dial up Alex and select go to war with Alex. Just for fun I click 'Can you spare this for a friend' and lo and behold, he agrees!!!

I sent about 4-5 cavalry up to the border between Alex and Asoka to see what's going on.

Antium: Forbidden Palace -> Factory (in 11)
Research to 70% now with FP + GA combined. Won't be sustainable after the GA though.

I contemplate switching to Emancipation but decide it's best not to have 2 turns of anarchy in the midst of a GA. Next up can do it before we go to war and after the GA has finished.
I choose Artillery next as it will be quite useful against Alex's cities with high defensive bonuses.

Alex hasn't taken any cities yet! He's had a few stacks go in but I don't think he had enough cannons with them as they haven't done much yet. Alex's cities have a lot of riflemen in them. We'll need a fair few artillery support to make the battles work in our favour.
