Fox-03 -- Trying to be Special

@namliaM, that's that little arrow of teal at the gates of Turfan.

I probably should have waited for Flight as the advance is going to stall for a bit and fighters would have done good things to keep it moving, especially in the west.

Bah... what's all this wimpy talk of waiting for flight to go to war?!? We've got artillery, infantry and he's only got riflemen... The planes can come when they're bl**dy well ready. This is a game of conquest not "lets be nice to Alex."

Ok.. I've let my warmonger out of the bag now... by the way, nice turns Bede.

Got it ... playing later tonight (i am up at 3 SGs)

Just something to whet the lurkers: we are at 65.49% pop, and 53.69% land-area. I am abit worried about our south-eastern most cities as Alex's main force is in Calcutta ... he may choose to shift them south instead poulling them back west.

We have sucessfully break Alex's land into two. The western half is easy picking (should be), the eastern half are recently conquered, so may not be that great in production. So, I think we should try to take out as much of his western cities as possible befor ehe can recover.

@namliaM: fully recovered :) ... I wasn't too drunk ... you can't get very drunk in Singapore ... its a virtual impossibility.

Grey, I've managed to get quite drunk a number of times in Singapore. I'm not sure how it's virtual impossibility, you just have to drink more or drink heavier spirits. I was also out at boat quay last night and had a headache this morning.

We will need to take quite a bit of Alex's lands to reach the domination level. We had talked about going conquest but I seem to recall that Alex has got a town in the new world so we would have to go take that out to win conquest.

namliaM, see if this helps to explain it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salient .

I think Bede was basically just waxing lyrical. And Teal is the colour of Alex.
Aha a salient, still dont totaly get it.... but I guess its somewhere where you easy see oponents comming and kill them before they get there ....

How is that? I mean you drink and drink and get totaly pissed?! Not very drunk? I like Singapore allready :)

You should try getting drunk in sweden ...

Hey Grey, it's tomorrow night already. They must be really big pictures if they take this long to upload... :mischief:

GreyFox once again looked upon the Great Emppire of Germany. Its was once a small city, just like the GreyFox family was once a humble lowly cook. Now Germany spans the entire main continent, and the GreyFox family is now the Imperial Family.

The war with the Greeks rages on, but GreyFox knew they would eventually crush the treacherous Greeks. The Western front may be a bit more delicate, but that's manageable as long as the Indians keep the Greeks busy.

The key is to keep the pressure on the Greeks, and slowly, but surely eradicate their presnc ein the main continent one by one ...

Bombay was first ...

fox03-AD1904-bombay.jpg

Next is Delphi ...

fox03-AD1908-Delphi.jpg

It seems like the Indians wasn't doing much at occupying Alex's attention. Look at the forces he pulled off the Indian front to attempt to re-take Bombay.

fox03-AD1908-bombay-counter-atk.jpg

However, with a bit of drafting and shifting forces, Bombay remains firmly eld in German's hand.

Welcome to the Modern Era, ladies ad gentleman. This is the year the Wright Borthers demonstrated a flying machine.

fox03-AD1910-modern-era.jpg

And what's Alex thinking? Still trying to settle while the world is at war with him?

fox03-AD1912-alex-settler.jpg

Ironically, he was saved by Asoka ... temporarily ...

fox03-AD1912-alex-settler-1.jpg

Ever heard of "You can run, but you can't hide?"

fox03-AD1914-alex-settler-2.jpg

In your case, my dear alex, it will be "You can't run, but you can hide .... at the bottom of the sea!"

We soon razed Pharsalos,

fox03-AD1914-raze-Pharsalos.jpg

and added 3 more cities to the German Empire ... Themopylae

Tianjin, ...

Well done, guys! It has been a pleasure. Although the city designations did seems a bit messy at times, but I think it was evident that the power of specialization is not to be under-estimated. The thing is, leverage on each city's strongest traits. Obviously there are different ways of doing things, but it just go to show how balanced Civ4 is. Every approach ismore or less equally viable.

I was a bit disappointed that we have to resort to war ... but guess we were pulled into it earlier on, and we did a fabulous job of turning it into an advantage. We had also made good use of "friends" such as Alex.

In all, an extremely well-played game. Fun, entertaining, and educational.

Regretably, due to my graphics card issues, I can no longer play Civ4 on my home computer, so I am forced to cut back on the number of SG I can participate in the short term. Hence, I don't think you guys would see a Fox-04 soon. But stay around, guys, And I am sure we will play a game or two again in the future.

Once again, its an honor "trying to be special" alongside such a fine, special, group of players.

Well done, all. Though a bit of me would like to grab the last save and take it to conquest. THat power graph, btw, is telling. According to it, Alex was our equal when Blitzkrieg Bede declared on him. Clearly, Alex was a paper tiger and the power graph must always be taken with a grain of salt.

(apologies to the non-english native speakers for the above coloquilisms. Google 'em if you need to :p.)

oh finished alreday
t'was an educational game and funny read

@cook : better get a new graphic card and launch Fox-04. You don't want to stop the fox series now, don't you ?

@Rex : those "coloquilisms" were quite clear though I didn't hear them before. That's one other thing I like about SGs. I'm improving my english every day. "coloquilisms" itself is another matter :)

Anyway, just to be sure I was getting them right, I "googlised" a bit :

- paper tiger : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paper_tiger
- with a grain of salt : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grain_of_salt. Same stands for the GNP here. You just play with your slider and your position changes. It does'nt tell you a thing about research speed, the most important thing
- Blitzkrieg Bede : not found in wikipedia. Maybe ask Bede himself

@all : see you in other SGs

Was a good thing I was skipped, cause I wouldnt have gotten us as far as bede did... I would have bodged it....

Nice going, particular the end is quite quick... getting a lot of cities....

Nice playing with you folks (again) thanks for the fun and lessons learned... and my first monarch game...

Nice finish Fox.

@namliaM, I don't think you would have bodged it.

Well played all. I will confess to a little internal grumbling at the city specialization thing as I think it may have hampered rather than helped, but as a learning tool it was unparalleled.

And whisky for the men and  for the horses!
