Prod is out. GP ... I don't like it enough, city overlaps with Hamburgh. I usually delay GP Farm until I found a good spot (some AI city with 5-7 FPs and 1-2 food resources). With Freddie philosophical trait, "normal" cities can be decent GP factories in the early game, especially if we can pull out a wonder or two.

Since city is coastal, trade routes and coast/sea tiles are good for commerce. We already have 2 sciences cities so I vote for commerce for the balance sake.

Concur with above on Frankfurt. Cologne can go either way, but I tend to think of it as the home for Great Engineers.

I managed the dual install so whatever patch is wantes is available.

Every city founded must be designated as one of the following:
  • Production City: a city focused on production.
  • Science City: a city focused on generating research beakers.
  • Gold City: a city focused on generating gold.
  • GP-Farm: a city focused on breeding Great Person.
  • Hybrid City: focused on more than one thing.
I think Cologne is best as a hybrid city. Could do with a bit more production and will be best once we can get railroaded lumbermills on those forests. In the meantime it will have enough food to allow good use of the :whipped: .

I reproduced the list above as I agree for the "commerce" call, but we need to actually call it a gold or science city. If we think we have enough science cities for the moment then we will have to designate it a Gold City.

My Turns Part I:

Turn 90 (625 BC)
We interupt this broadcast to bring you this DNN (Deutschland News Network) Special Report. We now bring you live to Dick Lipstick on the scene in Berlin. Dick?
Thanks, Harvey. And good evening folks, this is Dick Lipstick reporting for DNN live from Berlin. Folks, I have grave news from our nation's capital.
At 2:00 this afternoon, the special advisor to the minister for smallfolk announced in a press conference that His Grace, the Venerable Bede, pontif to nearly a million souls and our supreme majesty has died of complecations during a routine lobotomy.
The most beloved Pontif of our great nation assumed the throne on his nineteenth birthday in 875 BC and reigned peacefully until this afternoon, December 3rd, 625. His Grace was a spritely 169 years old.
We move now to our correspondent on the street, Anna Bobblechest, where it would appear the citizens have organized a procession in honor of the fallen demigod. Anna?
Yes, Dick. Indeed the plain and filthy smallfolk have begun a procession in the streets, lighting candles, and humming Das Lied der Deutschen to themselves in honor of His Grace.
You can see here, one of our own national guard straddling Main Street and Broadway, obviously in great sorrow.

// Okay screenie was lost but imagine a flying camera zoomed into the city showing massive legs straddling a city block

(Dick) Anna, have we had any word on His Grace's successor?
(Anna) Yes, Dick. We have. Aparently, on his death bed, King Bede, childless due to that unfortunate business with the sheep, named former War Minister Rex Tyranus to rule in his place.
(Dick)Well then, the king is dead, long live the king!
(Anna) [giggles] Yes Dick. I spoke to His Majesty, Rex I a few moments ago. He said that this loss is tremendous, but the German people will persevere.
Further, our new Royal Person claimed that his first order of business will be to sniff out the "rat Mongol bastards" who conspired to kill our king.
(Dick) But Anna, I thought the King died on the operating table?
He did, but King Rex believes that Kublai the Kahn used his "mind powers" and "laser vision" to infiltrate the hospital and bring untimely demise to our former Monarch.
He plans to galvanize our people into an all-out Jihad against the Mongol hordes.
(Dick) Sounds like fun, Anna! At least the boys in uniform aught to be happy for a few hundred years. Anyway, that's the scoop and you heard it here first.
We thank you for tuning in, and now back to your regular programming.
Enough bull-loney. On to the game.
We have 4 cities. Most are close to the happiness limit. <whip_crack />
Munich is at the H-limit, but it's building a settler.
Though, come to think of it, we've got plenty of food. Why not whip the bastard now?
No, I'll wait until we get down to a 1-pop whip.
Berlin will grow in 4, then I'll whip to finish the barracks.
No MM needed. COL in 4.
Confucianism isn't yet founded. Here's hoping.
ENd of inherited turn.

Turn 91 (600 BC)
Oh, didn't realize we had a chop going on in Munich. Now settler's due in 1
Munich finishes: Settler

Turn 92 (575 BC)
Munich begins: Swordsman
We gained access to iron on the very turn our settler popped. Sweet. Since Munich's a production city, I prioritized units of anything else. Begin Swordsman. Whip soon.
Hamburg finishes: Barracks

Turn 93 (550 BC)
Hamburg begins: Spearman
Caesar demands Polytheism. He leaves unhappy.
Hamburg begins Spear as no "science" buildings are available.
Worker begins farm south of Hamburg.
Tech learned: Code of Laws

Confucianism founded in Munich

2006-04-16-confucius.jpg

Confucianism has spread: Munich
Berlin grows: 5
Hamburg grows: 4

Turn 94 (525 BC)
Research begun: Monarchy
Cunfucias says: Hello!
I begin work on monarchy, but I don't know how many turns it'll take. We're in anarchy right now because it asked me to switch religion first.
Priamids BIAFAL
Louis converts to hinduism.
Now the whole world is either cauteous or annoyed with us.
I'm sending our missionary to berlin.

Turn 95 (500 BC)
Qin Shi Huang adopts Police State. Guess we know where the Pyramids were built.
If he's building millitary, we might want to try to befriend him.
Frankfurt founded

2006-04-16-frank.jpg

Frankfurt begins: Obelisk
I put Frankfurt on the river to grap the crabs. Yes, no hills, and I could have gotten them. This just seemed better. I build an Obelisk for the (hopeful) early expansion to get said crabs. Also, with enough culture, we can get those horses, too.
Confucianism has spread: Berlin

My Turns Part II:

Turn 95 (500 BC)
Okay, so Frank is officially designated as Financial. Looking at the original post to decide if I have to build anything specific. The list says: bank, market, grocier. It doesn't say courthouse, so I don't feel bad about building an obelisk.
Hopefully, we can get those clams hooked up.
Frankfurt begins: Library
Correction. Now building library. 2 culture and it does us some good. I suddenly realized why I never build obelisks.
End of turn 5
Munich grows: 5
Cologne's borders expand
Cologne finishes: Work Boat

Turn 96 (475 BC)
Cologne begins: Granary
Cologne finishes work boat. Sent to crabs. Begin granary. That much food. This place will be a whip factory.
Worker begins pasturing horses at Cologne.
End of turn 6
Munich's borders expand
Munich finishes: Swordsman

Turn 97 (450 BC)
Munich begins: Axeman
Gepid captured and razed by Alex.
Diplo screen shows Alex not at war with anyone. Who haven't we met? Who builds a city named Gepid? Is that a barb city?
I feel like an idiot AI. Now I have a swordsman. Where shall I put him?
I decide to sit him on the hill outside Beshbalik
Begin farming plains on river SE of munich
Munich will grow in 3 and will be unhappy. I'll try to time the whip right.
Looking at the tech screen, just about everyone's got sailing and archery.

2006-04-16-techs.jpg

Being continents, I'm inclined to want sailing, but I think archery is a lot less important right now.
Kublai's got math...
But his Khanship won't give us both for CoL. Dick.

2006-04-16-kahn.jpg

End of turn 7
Berlin grows: 6

Turn 98 (425 BC)
Begin building a cottage on grass at Frankfurt
End of turn 8.
Cologne grows: 2

Turn 99 (400 BC)
Okay. Turn 9 was a complete non-event.
But I'm looking at the turns left, vs. the year.
Turns left is 361 and the year is 400 BC. Looks like either way, I'm not getting a round number with both. I'll play 10 and let the next guy figure it out.
Berlin finishes: Barracks
Hamburg grows: 5
Munich grows: 6
Frankfurt's borders expand

Turn 100 (375 BC)
Berlin begins: Confucian Monastery
Berlin builds monastery. +10% science.
Sweet. Frank expands to allow access to clams.
Munich is due an axe in 1 turn. Maybe whip and get the overflow for something else?
That's the end of my turns.

2006-04-16-score.jpg

We suck in production and soldiers. We're #2 in GNP.

Yep, a Gold City or a GP-Farm. I would like to push for GP Farm. We are philopsophical, guys. It is to our advantage to have a GP-Farm sooner rather than later. By farming all the flood plains, and the fish, we at have 6 specialists. By getting rid of the forests (maybe to chop the Colossus or Great Lighthouse) and farming the grasslands later with Civil service, we can support 1 or 2 more.

--

Here's the save. Still in 1.52.

@Fox, I already designated it as Financial, though I suppose I should have used "Gold City" instead. I guess I'm not sure on the rules. I thought cities need to be designated on founding. Am I wrong?

Great story. Now, we are setting higher and higher standard of reporting, aren't we?

Goodjob founding the Confused Religion. Damn horsehockey luck to have it founded in our prod city instea dof any of the other cities.

Does Qin has a religion? Else try to convert him to confusion.

--

Now, who's UP?

*Grasped!* Me? ME??? Nah, I need a swap. So this is the new roster.

Roster:
-- Blid == UP with 1.52
-- GreyFox == On Deck with 1.52
-- Kikinit == 1.61 from this point on.
-- namliaM
-- Bede
-- rex_tyranus == played

-- badgerpendous = alternate

Converting to Confucianism on the turn it was founded may not have been the wisest choice, as you can tell from the attitude changes, and as I don't think we have the civics to benefit from a state religion, or do we?

Put a monastery where we can put out missionaries in a reasonable time (Hamburg might be a good choice as monasteries also generate science until SciMeth) and start converting the neighbors. We also need a temple somewhere so we cna start genning out the Prophet points for the shrine.

Nice turns Rex.
Me, the french speaker, is surrounded by so many talented storytellers. Standard is too high for me :crazyeye:

@Grey, Bede : Cologne being Hybrid means we can do whatever we want with it. If we want to maximize GP points, no problemo and we still have the flexibility to design a GP city if we find a better spot later

@Rex : why is the cottage being built on a grassland in frankfurt and not on a flood plain ?

Agree that we should try to convert an AI or 2 to our religion. Also try to get construction to build some cats, trading for maths if possible.

What about the last city spot SW ? Settle now or wait for currency/calendar for finance/silk hooking opportunity

I am afraid I don't have the time to play/report until Wednesday so I am skipping this round. This puts the ROSTER as :

-- Blid == Skipped
-- Kikinit == UP with 1.61.
-- GreyFox == On Deck
-- namliaM
-- Bede
-- rex_tyranus == played

-- badgerpendous = alternate

Knowing Kikinit, Grey and namliaM, I prefer to skip as I might be UP again by tommorow

huh... I'm up.. ok.. playing now...

Ok.. only joking.. Are you all sure we are ready to jump to the patched version already? I have got the 1.5 patch and was planning on installing as per the instructions mentioned by rex earlier. Let me know. I may not be able to play tonight anyway.. let you know later.

I think Grey made the roster supposing u already patched to 1.61. If not, then feel free to continue with 1.52.

Off topic again : anarchy exploit did get fixed.

blid, you are re right. In GreyFox's last roster, he had put himself in between you and I. Thus I am NOT up, Greyfox is.

So this is my UN-GOT it.

EDIT: Jeez.. i just read GreyFox's message in full and am now confused.. He wanted a skip to blid.. who now wants a skip... so am I up? :D . I'll wait for da boss to come in and clarify it.

In fact, Grey put me UP instead of himself (reverse turns) as he couldn't play and since I couldn't play too, I put you UP. Now can you post a Got-it of the UN-Got-it of the Got-it

:crazyeye: Uh...3.14?

Converting to Confucianism on the turn it was founded may not have been the wisest choice, as you can tell from the attitude changes, and as I don't think we have the civics to benefit from a state religion, or do we?

I converted for the happy. We were hard up against some limits. Also, I think we can run OR, but I either didn't because we weren't building enough bulidings, or I didn't because I was too dumb to remember.

Put a monastery where we can put out missionaries in a reasonable time (Hamburg might be a good choice as monasteries also generate science until SciMeth) and start converting the neighbors. We also need a temple somewhere so we cna start genning out the Prophet points for the shrine.

I know I'm building a monastery in one of the science cities. <checks_report /> Ah, yes, Berlin.

@Rex : why is the cottage being built on a grassland in frankfurt and not on a flood plain ?

Probably because I was too distracted by my anger at my Mother-In-Law to think straight. Any of you folks live in a country where it's legal to strangle your in-laws?

rex_tyranus said:

If there was any such country then they would have an immigration problem as everyone would be trying to emmigrate there.
.

Ok, I got it then. I'm not ready to patch up to 1.61 just yet. So I need to play before any of the 1.61 guys get it.

Resume to original Roster tthen :crazyeye: ...

So, blid you can unskip your skip, and Kikinit can un-got-it his got-it for the unskip-skipped which he is not suppose to get it anyway... everyboy got it?

--

But I will only play tomorrow 24 hrs time.

--

@rex: since I do not yet have a mother-in-law ... you have all my unempathetic sympathy.
