How do one instigate a World War?

Inherited Turns

Some rants first.

Fox07-AD1810-rants.jpg

We should cancel most gold trade, esp this 5g trade. It is not worth the price to help AI with growth/happiness. Also, Warlord has 0 cost for upgrade (not even exp reset), so why not upgrade?? For that matter, I upgraded every unit (except for a grenie).

As explained in previous posts, I don't think the coal plant is worth it, thus I suspended it. However since there is only 1~2 turns left (due to hammer degradation), I suggest completing it just before we get Plastic to hasten the hydro plant.

Fox07-AD1810-capitol-MM.jpg

The above shows the city management before and after my MM. Worthy of note is working on the lake. Because raw commerce is multiplied by bureaucracy's 50% before going through the beakers multiplier, it is much more worthwhile to work on the 2F2C lake instead of 2F3H forest.

But what a waste of effort, next turn Asoka lost his supply of clams ...

Fox07-AD1812-Clams.jpg

... forcing me to reassign a scientists to work on forest. Damned.

War Matters

I decided to raze one Brennus city:

Fox07-AD1816-razed.jpg

This earn us a GG, which instead of Mil. Acad. as suggested, I think a MI is much better ... we aren't going to produce more units ... what we have currently is enough (maybe when we have Industrialism, we can get one or two tanks to have hammer overflow to more important builds).

Fox07-AD1816-general.jpg

By and large, I am content to wait for brenny to send his troops into our border before taking them out, since that will double our GG points.

But he did not send much ... why? Because he has a bigger problem now.

Fox07-AD1816-hatty-war.jpg

Heh heh. That should keep Brenny, Hatty, and Washy busy.

Then Asoka must sign peace ...

Fox07-AD1824-radio-peace.jpg

I checked Hannibal, he "has enough on his hands".

Fox07-AD1828-Hannibal.jpg

I was hoping that Hannibal would DoW on Asoka soon ... but if the next player can't wait (or you think Hannibal is going DoW on us instead, doubt so, as he has no direct path to reach us), you can get Asoka to Dow on Hannibal for the price of Radio.

Other Stuff

I noticed Hatty close to completing Ass Line earlier on (she wouldn't even accept a selling price of AssLine for 300 gold), so I quickly trade AssLine to her vassal:

Fox07-AD1812-combustion.jpg

Getting us combustion. Here is the tech situation:

Fox07-AD1840-tech.jpg

We can try to trade for Industrialism or even Rocketry with Radio and Computers (4 more turns), and go ahead with Plastics then Robotics. Someone suggested FO for Internet, I personally don't think it is worth it, but that can be discussed and debated.

The actual world situation (no joke):

Fox07-AD1840-relations.jpg

Note that Hatty+Washy are now Friendly while Asoka dropped to Pleased.

Looking good fox :goodjob:

Hannibal will eventually attack Asoka on his own, so I don't think it's worth bribing Asoka with a tech. What's the disparity in power anyways? Isn't Hannibal still higher in power? He shouldn't take too long to show his true colors :)

As long as Asoka or Hatty stays friendly with us, we should be able to tech trade as needed. We will probably only trade another 2-3 techs anyways... But we will have to self-research rocketry because I don't think the warlords AI trades rocketry (something about wanting to win the game ).

I don't think the internet is very important in this game. We need to build 5 casings and 3 thrusters + all the other parts with only one city. Even if it has amazing production, it's still going to take a lot of turns... Each part will take about 5-10 turns based on the current production.

Re:Internet, yeah, my thinking also. But amazingly, based on my previous experience with OCC-Space (see RK03 - Alien Nation), it may not be production that is the bottleneck, at least not initially. Being Industrious and with laboratory (and with luck, Space Elevator + Aluminum), the space parts aren't that costly. Only problem is lack of copper, which speeds up cockpit (I think).

Re: Power, sorry, forgot to take pic of the power graph. IIRC, Hatty overtook Hanny as #1 in power. She has industrialism, so expect to see stack of tanks rolling by Moscow soon.

Just noticed a funny log:
While attacking in Russian territory at Philadelphia ...

"at"?, when did Philadelphia became Russian territory? Expect a new city being razed soon ... that might relieve the "border tension" penalty and bring Asoka back to friendly [pray].

--

good find fox ... the code to find the closest city searches in a 3 tile radius and stops when it finds the first city ... I cannot remember the exact order of the tiles but I suppose that these sorts of silly things can happen.

Actually, 'at' implies a 1 tile radius ... 'near' is 2 or 3 tiles away (IIRC).

A thing I forgot to post in my report ( I know, I'm a little late... :hammer2: )

Phily already had a warning revolt in my turnset.... I would not be suprised if it flipped ( aka auto-raze ) somewhere in the near future, especially if someone takes it from Asoka

Wang definitely is cooking something...

Hatty wanted to swap Democracy for Radio. As Democracy is utterly useless now I asked for another trade instead...

80091531mc6.jpg

However she wasn't willing to part with Industrialism yet...

12135671qu1.jpg

I then decided to put some research into the tech and then trade for it after Computers came in...

17693938qx6.jpg

Brennus got bold and wanted to resettle at our borders. Hatty's tanks took care of that.

62626774yz6.jpg

Marie Curie was born. As the Scientist would only bulb 1900 beakers towards Fission I decided to settle her immediately.

94113361jb9.jpg

Our Research Institute - which is fact a late game Great Library - added not only 2 free scientists but +2 unhealthiness too. So I had to reconfigure the city. We definitely need health !

18839790aq8.jpg

I then traded for Industrialism with Asoka. I assumed we want Plastics and Robotics rather sooner than later, and Industrialism is a prereq. The deal saved 8 turns of research and brought the Indiaman to Friendly shortly later. We now have 3 good and strong friends :woohoo: !

45938614wl8.jpg

And we have Aluminium !

10px4.jpg

Hannibal goes for Asoka again, and Hatty completes a shrine...

11di0.jpg

Speaking of Hatty: We have a competitor !

12zh9.jpg

Wang bullied us for a free resource. I conceded as we can cancel the deal in 10 turns and gave away no vital resource. I know he is far away, but anything keeping us out of war with an AI which is not occupied elsewhere is worth an attempt.

13rw8.jpg

Asoka wanted our help then. Sure, buddy ! We only had open borders with Hannibal, and seeing that Asoka is our friend and Hannibal is not...well...I made the deal.

14ls0.jpg

As mentioned before there was a decent flip chance for Asoka's recently captured border city. It did flip and was auto-razed. Which is a good thing as it secures our cultural hold on Horses and Oil.

Good turns Imhotep ... but :whipped: where is my joke?

I see that you toyed around with the Pentagon ... i was too ... but decided the +1GE point was not worth it since now we are in a tight race with Hatty.

Good lords, the Aluminum is pretty far. If we have the time, consider building the Hermitage to secure our hold on that resource.

The razing of Phila may or may not be a good thing, as it means Brenny can now add a city just beside the ruins.

After Plastics/Robotics, may consider going for Genetics first to earn that +3 health. I have not think hard abt this, not sure if it is worth delaying Rocketry.

My bad, I forgot again. Here is da joke:

Spoiler :
An American on shopping tour

I was walking to a farm yesterday. As I walked past the cottage I saw the grandpa sitting on the roof of it. I asked the peasant's wife for the reason for this. Said she: "Well, yesterday an American was here and wanted to buy 100 gram of wool. But we only had 98 gram. So we shaved our grandpa's nuts." I answered: "Oh, and that's why he is sitting on the roof ?" "No, no", meant the wife, "the American was here earlier today and wanted 10 eggs. But we only had 8 in the stables..."

Imhotep

That Al will be difficult to keep in our empire. We should get some more culture ( Hermitage is ok.... this is warlords and no cap on National wonders in OCC )

Brennus is becoming less and less a menace... but we should maintain the state of war as long as possible, and keep Hatty into the fight ( just to keep her busy ). I would keep a eye on Wang as well ( he has plastics, so he maybe going to TGD... )

About the space race: I would make the net while researching towards fusion. With the Internet we can have Rocketry for free.... and hopefully some extra SS techs.

About the joke: really :vomit:

Have you guys noticed something weird? In the tech screen, everybody is able to research Nationalism. I'm pretty sure everyone already HAVE Nationalism. I think it is a bug in Ruff's mod.

The joke: :vomit:

The set:

I think we're safe now from any stupid AI that might try to get us militarily. We just need to slow Hatty down. How? I really :dunno:.

I don't know about the Net ... the Internet is 2000 hammers and we don't have copper, so the Net is likely to cost us 12~15 turns (not sure though, didn't do the calculation). But it does save us the need to research rocketry and maybe also satellite (the two techs that AI always prioritize) and give us time to go for Genetics.

One thing abt MMing: in my report, I have already shown that working the 2F2C lake is more productive than 2F3H forest when producing research.

That's easy, Mr. Fox. Assuming 15 turns of building time, would we get Rocketry, Satellites and Genetics researching ourselves? And who knows if we cannot get copper in trade with some of our friends? I do think it's worth a try. We can get a big leg ahead in the race if we make it.
But, of course, I'm the least experienced space racer here... :mischief:

Have you guys noticed something weird? In the tech screen, everybody is able to research Nationalism. I'm pretty sure everyone already HAVE Nationalism. I think it is a bug in Ruff's mod.
There was a bug in the 'can research' code that was fixed. It appears that you are using the latest version (2.0.4) so it might be a different bug. I haven't looked at this code for ages (and don't intend to :p) so you just might have to live with it.

got it. I'll look at the tech tree and try to calculate some research times to see what the best course is. Hatty is a builder and a pretty good space race civ... it may be hard to keep her in check.

There is also this scotty thingy that gets available with communism, which is available for trade, to let us train Nikita for Operation Hatty. This is especially viable if we get the Net (then we can afford to push science to 0 and accumulate KGB fund).

Alternatively, a much more risky avenue would be to make peace with Brennus and gift him some tanks to keep Hatty busy -- but hatty may sign peace with him, and then brenny may declare on us again with his shiny new tanks.

--

ok. Things have taken a turn for the worse. No, nobody declared on us, but the world is not going in a very good direction...

To begin with, the joke:

Why did the chicken cross the road?

Spoiler :
To get to the other side (I'm surprised nobody has used this one yet )

To begin the set, I sat down and calculated the number of turns various things will take. At our current production rate, all of the space parts will take about 66 turns to complete (assuming no coal plant but that should change). On the other hand, there are 96 turns of research left to do  So I decide that we can save some turns by building the internet (which will take 13 turns to complete). Plus it'll help us get fusion (and the free GE) faster. I figure we'll get rocketry + satellites for free, which will give us about 21 turns of research, thereby saving us about 8 turns. Or something like that - I'm not too sure about my math.

I reassigned the tiles and hired an extra scientist instead of working the mines - it brings in about 10 more beakers this way. Then, I start to hit enter. The war doesn't do much to change... until in 1866, Brennus loses one of his bigger cities and vassalizes to Hatty  That's really bad news.... Wang still has enough on his hands but I doubt he's coming after us. In 1870, I sell biology to Brennus for 400ish gold, in hopes that he'll grow his population big enough to un-vassalize himself from Hatty (he was at 49% pop, but it's been steadily decreasing during my set to 46%). The reason I'm concerned about the vassalization is that Hatty has MM - she is close to having enough votes to win a diplomatic victory right now.

To make matters worse, Wang declares war in 1876 on.... Brennus! And that means he's at war with Washington and Hatty now. I think he's going to end up getting vassalized as well, unless we bribe off Hatty before she can do too much damage. IN hindsight, I should have bribed her off of Brennus but it didn't occur to me that she had a big enough empire to actually vassalize the sucker.

I've finished researching plastics and research has been set on superconductors - which will take about 9 more turns to complete at our current pace.

Hatty will take peace with Wang for the bargain price of just plastics. Washington is also willing to trade us MM right now, but he wants both plastics and computers. Hatty can't win a diplomatic victory with just her vassals (you need 62% of the votes to win) so I don't think we need to trade for MM and build the UN ourselves. Asoka is the other likely candidate and Hannibal + Wang shouldn't vote for either candidate.

Hatty is also taking a lot of resources from Brennus right now. We should bribe one to cancel trade deals with the other as soon as possible, to prevent further Hatty growth. Hannibal is still warring with Asoka and is gradually gaining ground. I imagine they'll take peace soon though, as both seem to have pillaged the other quite well.

At the end of my set, Washington proposed a sugar for crab deal that I accepted. That just about wraps up my set - good luck to the next player trying to figure out the best course of action!
