Now that we have achieved Monarchy, The Hanging Gardens looms in the on deck circle with the Forbidden Palace. Me being a huge Culture monger, the HG is one of my favorite Great Wonders. With the benefits of the HG, wartime activities will be that much easier, as will the growth of our cities. Placement of the HG is not as big an issue as for the FP either. Just put it in one of our larger cities (or one that is growing quickly). If we decide to put the FP in a city like Matsuma, then we may have to wait a while to use the Great Leader (when we get one). But the HG can go in immediately. We wouldn't have the time or the shields to build it, but if we get a GL quickly, we may want to take advantange of this opportunity.

What do you think?

What about Sistine? If we get that tech (that allows Sistine's) via the Great Library, it'll have even greater effects.

Only on Cathedrals, CT. In order to snag the bennies of the SC, we would have to have Cathedrals in the cities. The HG would make 1 citizen in each city that was unhappy, content. For free. And in the city where it was built, 3 people. I'll go double check these figures.

EDIT: yep, they're correct.

Yep, although they are a ways off. The way the AI probably wants to end the Great Library's bennies, the SC will be available before those. We may get a GL really quick.

The Sistine Chapel would never go obsolete. While the Hanging Garden would be obsoleate soon. We should push forward to the SC :).

I'm all for getting the HG. If we have a choice with a Leader, I would rather use it for the wonder that takes the longest to build. We could use the culture and happiness.

If a Leader appears just a little later, there are some nice wonders around the corner. After this "wonder era" I think we should then concentrate on our FP.

i think we should go for the HG then if the oppertunity arrises we should change to the sistine

Here are the pros and cons of building the SC and the HG :)

The Hanging Gardens
Advantage: Makes 3 unhappy people content in the city where it's built and 1 unhappy Citizen content in all of your other cities.
No need of a Temple or Cathedral it get the full benifits of this wonder

Disadvantage: It becomes obsolete once we get Steam Power

The Sistine Chapel
Advantage: Doubles the efect of all cathedrals in your cities. It never becomes Obsolete.

Disadvantage: The City needs a Cathedral in order for the city to get the full benifits of the SC.

With the Advantages of the HG out weighting the disadvantages of both the SC and the HG. We should build the HG since we dont have to do the painstaking task of building cathedrals in all of our cities :). Though we must put in the back of our minds that the HG will become Obsolete when we get Steam Power. It would be a good Idea to push for the JS Bach's Cathedral and the Shakespeare's Theater in the future before we get the Steam Power advance :).

The Sistine Chapel might be better in the long run. In the long run, the majority of our cities will have cathedrals. Sistine would allow them to make 6 people content. Add in the cultural bonuses, and the Sistine Chapel looks much more appealing then the Hanging Gardens.

Right, and we need the culture. Plus, once the industrial ages come, we'll NEED the happiness effects.

I propose that we build the SC :).

I don't think this is a choice betweenthe gardens and the chapel. We could still build both! I would use the first leader for the gardens since the benefit would be immediate. We'd have to build temples and then cathedrals to benefit from the chapel. I also think either of these is preferable to the forbidden palace now. If we have a few moe wars we may find a better spot for the FP.

AS the current Culture Minister, let me weigh in with a few words. ;)

I am all in favor of building the HG ASAP. The benefits are enormous, and immediate. Meanwhile, we should build temples (and cathedrals) whenever we can, so that as soon as the SC is a viable build, we get it, too!

Indeed, I would love to see us get Bach's and Shakespeare's, too!

:D

I don't see why we can't build both ;-) Why not start the Hanging Gardens as soon as possible?

How about this, Build the HG first and then quckly, once HG is built ;), build the SC.

I say after the Heroic Epic is built in Bavaria, we start work on the HG. (A city in Bohemia.... hmmm.... so many to choose from) ;)

Why Plexus, you can build the HG right in your back yard if you wanted to ;).

I hate to be a 'party pooper', so to speak, but we are unlikely to get any of these wonders without a great leader. If we are lucky, and the cascades are timed correctly, we might be able to build one wonder of the middle ages. Remember, we are not Phoenatica, and the AI is ahead of us in almost all things.:(

We should, however, figure out where we want the FP as soon as possible and begin taking steps towards its construction.

Exactly eyrei. That was a major point in my first post. Great Leaders hurrying our Wonders is probably the only way we can afford to them. This was the reason for building thr Heroic Epic, this was the reason for turning our first Great Leader into an Army. Let's not discuss when or where we will "build" Wonders, let's talk about which Wonders we want to Hurry with our Great Leaders. I still say if we get a GL quickly, we should go for the HG. We are a Militaristic society, so our barracks are half price, discounting the free barracks Sun Tzu's Art of War. Leo's Workshop would be nice for the upgrades, but it's pretty far off now, but still with the race for Leo's, the GL route is the only viable one. Remember - not what and where to build, what and where to Hurry.
