Free 3d program: Blender

If your going to try and learn Blender I recommend buying and reading the manual. It helps a lot.
I'm currently working on a request from SG and going to take a shot at making some wallpaper thing using YafRay (www.yafray.org) to render it.

Heres a little preview of what YafRay can do. (This was modeled in Blender)

I am using Yafray right now. Only because units are so small, that the OSA setting in the blender renderer makes the units too blurry, and without it, they are not anti-aliased at all.

Who is SG?

The only thing that I can see that OpenFX has over Blender is 'depth of feild' blur.

The yafray rendering engine has an aperature setting, under DoF settings, (Distance of Focus), for blurred images based on depth of field.

I have posted my set-up for blender in the tutorials section.

I have gone back to using the Blender internal renderer... it has particle effects, which are essential for unit's smoke fire etc. I think maybe for more medievel swords and spears, Yafray may just add that little extra bit of detail that can make a difference in a mere 1000 pixel animation.

Also, it seemed shaders did not work too well in Yafray... I never did get them to work, but they came easily in Blender.
