Hello, people.

I have two DVD/CD recording drives, both from LG: the GMA-4020B ATA and the GSA 4163B ATA, and both are set to "region 4".

Only that I also have several original "region 1" disks that I would like to play at my desktop.

Now, I don't know much of how to flash drives, and honestly, I also am a bit afraid of doing so, since it can utterly ruin the hardware. Besides, both drives work a-ok, so I'm not very inclined to flash'em.

I know that there are some software that can make disks "appear" as region free, and become playable, such as DVD Region Free and AnyDVD. Only those are both rather expensive, as almost 40 euros each.

My question is: is there any freeware that performs this function (I could not find any at my searches)?

Regards :).

I think VLC Media Player should be able to do that for you. Or rather, it will play the dvd's perfectly fine. I know it can play both Russian (Region 5) and US disks (Region 1).

Will DVD Decrypter or DVD Shrink do any good? They will let you make region free copies at least, I forget whether they let a player play the DVDs without copying them first.

DVD Decrypter will let you make region free ISO's and IFO's afaik.
