Heres a small trick I found for people planning to go military for very early on in the game
Find a civ close to you that you will go to war with in the future.
On his borders, find a spot with a recourse (like cows), that he did not put to use yet with a worker, and position a warrior next to it.
Defend your cities with 2 archers each.
When the worker comes into the spot, attack it (and thus take it over), and quickly retreat back to your city.
Defend off his attacks with easy useing your archers. During this time, use your newly gotten free worker for advancing stuff on the side of your civ opposite your opponet.
When you got that all mined/farmed/housed up, sign a peace treaty, and work the other half.
Results: 1 free worker, the opponent used alot of energy building archers to attack you, so he is worse off, and easier for you to kill as soon as you get some better units.
