I know a few people have this question, including myself:cool:

How do you "unload" units from an army??

FullofHoles and Hitman78 to both of your question: You can not.
Added: You can through a bug in patch 1.17f. Patch 1.21f fixed this bug.

Just to add to this thread...

..The Nvidia card slowdown on scrolling, unless the graphics accelerator is slid to one of the two lowest settings is -not- just
a Win2k/XP problem. Got that problem in spades on my Win98SE system. Got a GeForce2 and it's slow slow slow with accel turned all the way up.

Makes me have to reboot to play the game...then reboot to play something else...kinda sucks.

You can change the governor behavior by pressing G when zoomed into the city screen. Then you get a screen that lets you change things. See page 182 in the manual.

Instead of scrolling, try left-clicking on an empty square. This will recenter the map on the tile you selected.

Be careful though! If you drag the mouse between tiles it issues a goto order. I learned this the hard way.

don't worry about them. After every build order, just pick what you want to build as normal. They do not involve themselves until you actually contact them ("G") or ("contact governor") in which case they really do make choices.

...same as you would for a unit into a transport. Have the sub in a coastal square and simply move the unit over land and then load on the sub.

Cheers

Something that took me a while to figure out is that in order to upgrade a navel unit the city must have a harbor.

Here's my question:

How do you destroy/abandon a city of yours that has already been built?

I have another item for the FAQ: "I irrigated my grassland, and it's still producing only 2 food. Is this a bug?" This one got me my first game.

Also, another one: "How exactly do strategic resources become available to you?" I still haven't quite figured that out. In my current game, I've got some cities that don't have access to rubber, even though there is very clearly a roaded path, entirely within my borders, to it. And then at the same time all my cities that DO
have rubber have oil, too, even though my only oil source is on another continent, next to a single city that has only an aqueduct for an improvement. I'm trade-embargoed by all the surrounding neighbors. It makes absolutely no sense.

tetley: for your first question, in a despotism production that is 3 or more gets cut down by one point. So if you have 2 food on a square you get both of it. If you then irrigate you have 3, which gets cut down by one so in the end you have 2 food.

I have never had any problems with my resources not being available though...

Dragoon: to abandon a city you might be able to change all your workers in specialists, and once the city is size one or two have the city make a worker or settler. If the city isn't growing it will ask to abandon when the unit is done.

Aluteyn: I'm not sure if this is restricted to win2k/winXP, but in those you don't have to restart after changing the acceleration settings, you can do it even while Civ3 is running.

1. If you play a game with 16 CIV's how do you see them all in the Advisor screens?
2. When I tell a country to remove his "army" from my territory they often get a free trip to where they were going. How come they don't return to the place they came from? Even after I tell them to remove themselves they keep coming back. I wish a diplomatic stance should occur that tells the country that if they step on your territory it will initiate immediate war.
3. Why don't the trade networks distribute food so there isn't starvation? If I can build a spaceship but can't get a train to distribute food, what kind of country am I? It seems the sharing of gold to support troops should be similar in sharing food to support a nation.

Please add something regarding MP support. It's asked almost every day

-Why is there no MP?/Will there be MP?
Yes, they are still working on it. It wasn't ready in time for release. Sometime this spring. Blah blah balab

Are ZOC (Zone of Control) broken for the fortress? or is it just me?

It seems when i was trying to choke at where mexico connects to south america, (Earth Standard) the AI can still walk past my fortress.

I then built a whole series of fortresses, however, it felt that my defenders did not really have an advantage. Are fortresses broken in general?

Hummm... No one answered the question! its the same for me... I did a fortress with the right units fortified in it and it does nothing... everyone pass on the side of it...

HELP here! ;p

>>1. If you play a game with 16 CIV's how do you see them all in the Advisor screens?<<

You can't see them all at the sametime, but you can change which civ you see on the advisor screen. Hold down Shift and right click on a civ you want to replace and it'll bring up a menu with the other civs that are not currently displayed that you can change to.

When the units are automatically removed from your territory they are placed the nearest square outside of your territory. So yes, it is quite possible if they are trying to march through 5 squares of your territory from the north, and you ask them to leave when they are on the third square, they will be placed on the other side of your territory on the south, where they were heading anyways. Just how it works. And you can always declare war on the country if they keep invading your territory, but your reputation suffers of course, not theirs.

I think fortresses only have ZOC over enemy units, not allies or countries you are at peace with. Unfortunetly by the time I actually go to war with a country my fortresses are so deep in my territory I never get a chance to use them. If those are enemy units marching past your fortresses then the ZOC is definatly broken.

>>Is there a turn limit on the game, regardless of what victory conditions you chose?<<

The game ends in the year 2050 regardless of what victory conditions you choose.

If no one has won by the year 2050 then the winner is determined by the sum of your score at the end of each time period.

So, if you ended the game with 200 points at the end of the first time period, 300 the next then 400 then 1000 you'd have a final score of 200+300+400+1000/4 = 475.

If the AI had scores of 400, 500, 600 and 700 the final score would be 550 and you'd lose =(
