At 5pm Minnesota time I will be hosting a big HogFest. The settings are as follows: Diety,Standart size, Quick, Fractal FFA and it will be on New York servers. Anyone with large skills welcome to join.
An 8 player deity game sound great, but will lag be an issue? I haven't been able to get far in an 8 player game yet before it froze or crashed, maybe it is just bad luck.
So I popped into this game to check it out, 16 city states and barbs on.... Im guessing it either didnt get off the ground to start or made it past turn 10.

And how is overt reliance on luck factors in-game a representation of skill?
It's not like all of the civs are going to be viable under any settings. Some civ combos are just bad. At least make it a legit competition and not a luckfest.
If you host a game, you don't like your start, don't gain momentum, and then later when the game freezes you are the first person to leave without offering to reload or even offering an explanation... some people consider that a form of quitting. Especially when hosts who are doing well make sure to try and reload if there is a freeze or a crash...
