Atari has informed me that it has no vendors selling Civilization II.

There is no way to obtain a legitimate vendorized copy of the product.

I'm surprised the response was so fast. It does means that they have officially abandoned Civ II as a product (for now). I was most interested in whether they would correct my assertion that the CD-only products were not legitimate. They let that statement stand.

So, it seems that if you can purchase a copy with a box, then you should. If no-such product is available, you should not not send your money to places that are only CDs.

Unfortunately these items are no longer printed. I am afraid we have no way
of vendoring these items any longer. I can only refer you to www.amazon.com
for a chance to find a legal copy of the title.

ISSUE DESCRIPTION
Is there a legitimate avenue of purchasing Civilization II or more
specifically Civilization II test of time.

In the last two months (prior to knowing Civ IV was being released) I've
started several new multiplayer games and no have three or four more people
interested in getting into the game. I am not willing to encourage software
pirates on EBay that are making money selling copies of OEM Jewel case
versions of the game.

Is there an avenue to purchase the game that will get revenue to
Microprose/Atari or is the game no longer available for legitimate purchase.

I will eventually purchase Civ IV, however in addition to the interest in
CivII from friends, Civ IV is too processor intensive for the computers my
children are using...

Please let me know one way or the other; if there is a legitimate avenue or
if it is no longer available for purchase.

Thank you,
.REMOVED.

Considering Civ4 is now "alive", after the long "life" of Civ3 and the unfortunate situation of non-availability of Civ2 , it would be a really good idea to release Civ2 for free.
Some publishers and dev team already did so with their older game when they were launching a new version.

Benefit would be not only to the Civ franchise, as Civ2 was and always is a great game, but it would benefit on the publisher/developers popularity and so directly to their new products.

Let's hope such an idea would go into the mind of the head people.

Hey it had to happen.Kinda surprising it has sold as long as it did. They have finally reached the point where investment/return just doesn't make sense.
