FS2- The Soviet Union

well considering fareas track record in fs1.... I'd simply assume he's auto skip until he decides to return to the thread. But that for you all to debate =)

Cheers!

well, many new players are popping up in SG's and I will take mental notes about their reliability. Nothing worse than popping in and out at your will. It's worst if it's the person who started the thread.

[0] 1190AD - Ooh, look, war! I check out the power graph, and what do you know. Monty is the most powerful, and has about 50% more soldiers than we do. Great. I decide to see if Freddy will attack Monty for us, but he wants all our techs for it. Meh, whatever, especially with machinery coming in soon, we can handle it ourselves. :) Other than that, just move around some troops, and rename St. Petersburg to Kamenogorsk (because we don't need imperial Russia heritage in our city names). Also, I notice several cities will complete their builds next turn, and I would like them to start on Crossbows, so I kick up research rate to 100%, and at the cost of our entire treasury, Machinery will be here next turn.

[1] 1200AD - Between turns, Monty kills our sword at Mycenian at the loss of one of his horse archers. He also unloads a horse archer and a catapult at Stalingrad. We get Machinery, and start on Guilds.

Moscow builds cat, starts Mace. Leningrad builds Elephant, starts Mace. Catherinagrad builds elephant, and I consider starting up another mace in there, but with comrade Mao's city tucked in there between our two cities, I opt for a library instead, to help in the conversion process. Novgorod builds catapult, starts mace.

More moving troops around. I consider engaging Monty from Stalingrad's defenses, but we have quite bad odds here, so I decide to let him pillage our cows instead.

[2] 1210AD - IBT, Monty loses a horse archer to our axe behind enemy lines in the south, and his forces at Stalingrad pillage improvements, so S-town is now in starvation.

Moscow: Mace -> Mace

At the loss of an Axe from Stalingrad, we kill off Monty's SoD ( ), and the city is back to normalcy more or less.

[3] 1220AD - Roosevelt wants Literature in exchange for gold. I laugh in his face. Not everything in this world can be bought for money, you capitalist pig! Alex wants us to cancel our deals with Hatty. Now, I'm not sure what deals we have there, but we surely won't cancel them for you buddy.

[7] 1260AD - IBT, our axeman behind enemy lines kills off Monty's axe, and archer. Also, Monty's new SoD approaches: 6 horsies, 1 elephant, 1 cat. Two of the horsies are killed off at the loss of a cat.

[8] 1270AD - Monty's attack stack is finished, at some losses to us. He has mostly mounted units, so I have started up production of spears. Hopefully, that should help some.

[10] 1290AD - We get guilds, start engineering to better counter Monty's mounted units.

[11] 1300AD - To make the numbers round. :) Mao offers Optics and 20 gold for Guilds. Nah. Not good enough. Freddy wants Ivory for fish. We don't have any health problems, sorry, Fred. (I renegotiate and give him furs instead, however.) Also, another wave of Monty's attackers shows up, consisting of 3 horses, 1 elephant, and 1 cat. Also, our own counter-attack stack encounters another of Monty's stacks by Mycenian, consisting of 3 elephants and 1 horse (we have 1 elephant, 2 maces, 1 crossbow, 3 cats, 1 spear).

The war is going alright, though could be better. We haven't taken any of Monty's cities yet, but it's possible that that can happen in the next ten turns. The main object, I think, is to pillage Monty's source of ivory - we can handle the other troops he can throw at us with ease. With Knights starting to come online, it should be easier to make rapid raids into Monty's territory for pillaging.

Good luck with the war, JOE. :)

PS: Oh, one more thing. Mao asked that I cancel deals with Hatty, and I did, since we supposedly like Mao. Now, our galley is stuck in neutral waters just outside Egypt. And speaking of galleys, I am building some in Catherinagrad, and it should build a couple more, to thwart further attempts of Monty to do naval invasions.

Not the most pleasing set of turns ever...no cities taken, and some bad roles of the dice in some battles. Just as I'd though I'd got rid of Monty's troops in our area ready for another raid into his territory (his obvious Ivory camps are destroyed BTW), two big SOD's have arrived.

Sorry if there are any troops on auto move...they are heading towards Vladikavkaz...this seems to be Monty's only source of interest. There should be enough troops en route and being built to take those out and take a city...the city SE of Vladikavkaz has only been defended by an Axeman, a Cat and maybe a Horse Archer.

There are three Galleys hanging around Catherinagrad southern waters to fend off any of Monty's naval attacks, although I haven't had a sniff of Monty's naval yet. :D

GL!

In case you are wondering, yes, I do this often. I am inable to keep my attention on Civ 4 for the length of an SG, and you guys usually would do better if I left it to you anyways (especially now, considering I am the failure at war).

If I ever get time from this God forsaken homework, I will rejoin the SG. :)

Good luck FS2!

In case nobody has told you yet, but that comment is just plain ridiculous. You start an SG knowing that you can't keep attention :nono:

Just to make sure nobody else will be fooled by this, I will make sure to put a warning in any SG you are starting in the future. Hope you don't find this funny

Sorry I'm taking somewhat longer than I announced, but I have been struggling with the autolog for some time now and finally got it to work this morning. I really wanted to use this autolog as the war will be very full of events me thinks

But, Strauss, Autolog alone isn't enough. It doesn't tell us where the action took place. So pleace enrich your log with some more info :)

Farae, it's a pity that you have no time for your SG. You should have. I understand your point. But if you lack time you should hesitate to open new SGs.
As usually you are the one that has to keep it going. You're lucky here that the game seems to go on without your lead.

As I am on a trip to Bruxelles from Wednesday morning to Tuesday evening please skip me from the 1st until the 7th of March.

I never said that I would just use the autolog;) It's just easier than alt-tabbing and taking notes.

Anyway, here it is:

Comments:
Pretty much all of the fighting took place in the jungles south of Vladikavkaz. The Aztec power has decreased rapidly, while our own power has greatly increased. Also, as is usually the case with Montezuma, his power is mostly based on numerical superiority, he has only just started to upgrade some of his archers to longbowmen.

Even though the Aztecs have again sent a stack of troops across the border south of Vladikavkaz, we have enough troops ready to deal with them and have our own stack two tiles west ready to cross into the Aztec homeland. I will leave the honor to the next player. I have also not moved any units in my last turn, so the next player is free to decide where to send them.

Keep an eye on Alex as well, he may not be very powerful but might be able to catch us off guard. I saw a stack of Horse Archers on our border, although there was a worker in that stack as well. So Alex is probably just very protective of his workers;) Nevertheless, I have left an extra Musketman and Knight there to deal with any back-stabbing.

Conclusion: The Aztecs are probably on the verge of collapse and it's just a matter of time before they are wiped off the face of the planet. After killing off the Aztecs, we should quickly move back north and take care of Greece if we want to achieve domination, time is already running out.
We are stronger than everyone except our comrade Mao, and are also ahead or at least on par with everyone in technology. So the only things that could stop us from domination are maintenance costs and time shortage.

Final note 1: We are 2nd in score, about 150 points from Mao. This should improve as we conquer the Aztecs.
Final note 2: We have arrived in the 'возрождение' (apparently this means 'Rebirth' in Russian..)

Good luck!

And the capital is usually the best defended city...

The Aztec "Stack of Doom". Also note the Soviet stacks

The balance of power is shifting rapidly

Some statistics; we're doing quite alright, of course the war is preventing us from improving our infrastructure

You have! Great set of turns.

Pushing forward we should be able to crush Montezuma soon. Next should be imperialist Greece. And afterwards we should be strong enough to carry a flag of glorious Russia up to the Capitol in Washington.

It looks like old buddy Mao has been doing quite a buildup of troops himself... I'm worried about him. Make sure to keep a few troops around the northern and north-eastern parts of our land, in case Alex or Mao try anything funny while we are busy crushing the Aztecs.

Vovan

We want to keep friends with Mao. Maybe it's time for some gifts again? We could as well try to flip him towards a war against Alex. That would busy those both for a while. And we'd have time to finish of Monty.

The second strong is most often the target of the strongest. I just experienced this in my TAM game playing as Carthage being attacked by the uber strong Iberians...
