Hello,

I figured I would go and play a bit of civ again, and I started a game as follows:

Snail speed, Monarch, 49 AI, Gigantic smartmap configured to islands all over.
No revolutions, basic start.

Now because I started on an island with no further connections to other coasts, I am stuck with 5 cities. I was prepared for this, and I am focussing everything on research.
I am now at around turn 1250, which leaves me around 1450 AD. I am quite sure I managed to get ahead of the AI in research (although they seem to be doing a decent job).

Here's the thing: Even with all that massive research I am still only halfway through the classical era. By current calculations, I will need another 300 turns to get Optics.
Basically, I will be over halfway into the maximum turns, and less than 1/4 into the available research.

This just feels wrong. It should be entirely possible to get through the full research tree in a game, right?
Like this, even with advanced start and more cities to research, it would be very unlikely I could reach future tech, or am I missing something?

Short end, why is it not possible to do the full research tree like this, and should I change a few files to add turns for instance? (dont suppose that would help my current game though )

With 49AI I really don't think you will finish your game.

Zappara and Aforress warned repeatedly about using more than 28 AI. That it will cause mid to late game weirdness and most likely just plain crash. The .dll for RoM is designed for only 48 AI plus Barbarian plus player. And if you happen to have Barb Civ or World turned on then you will CTD eventually with a 49 AI start.

Maybe though you have the latest greatest super computer and you succeed in getting to later Eras. Good Luck.

Oh, that is interesting. It worked fine so far though.

Anyhow, after a bit more playing I figured it wasn't going to happen anyhow, and I did a bit of research. Changing the variables turns out to be easy, and so I did.

Changed the gamespeed file to make Snail speed have 5000 turns. I tried to keep it within the timeline, and although not perfect, the game still ends in 2100AD. In May, to be exact. (97204 months as opposed to 97206 originally).

I didn't change any other variables as I kind of liked the existing speed, so I do not know how it will turn out towards the end with culture etc. I started a new game already (with less players ;)), but it will take a while for me to get that far.

I attached my version of the file for anyone who may want to try the same.
It alters the Snail speed only (although menu will still say 3000 turns).

(Replace the file in ...\Beyond the Sword\Mods\Rise of Mankind\Assets\XML and do not forget to make a backup)
