Lets post good unit designs, or just those we enjoy using. Try to keep them interesting, and give a little explanation of their use.

I'll start us off.

Drop Tank Probe team.

Secondary ability could be grav struts or algorithmic enhancement. Used it on a stupidly huge map where it had been 250+ years and I had not reached the outer edges of my main foe, the drones. Orbital insertion into fungus some way from a base (Xenoempathy Dome required, or you are at great risk of being killed before you get to a base since drop probes lose lose their move when being air dropped), then run up to a base for tech steal or mind control. Probably comes a bit late to be much use in multiplayer, but could help assure a win on a big enough map, forcing them to invest in many more probes for odd bases to fend you off. And great for messing with the computer.

NeedleJet or Chopper Colony Pods. On extremely large maps. After I get drop pods (but before orbital insertion) I can use these to build a string of bases eight tiles apart stretching from my bases to whichever faction I want to conquer. I then use the bases to ferry choppers (to kill enemy base defenders) and drop garrisons (to capture and occupy the bases), plus drop probes for probe defense in case I don't have the HSA. Takes some time to set up, but very effective once it gets going.

Personally, I like land transports. A hovercraft chassis and maximum armor carrying a maximum weapon infantry can be very potent for base assaults.

I also like a land transport on an infantry chassis in a seabase that is adjacent to land. It permits land units to enter and exit the seabase without amphibious ability.

Clean Super Formers

boring but incredibly useful.

Wave blink choppers - well, that's an obvious one. Bypass defences, annihilate everyone with little resistance. At least have blink.

Clean AAA battleships - Mass producing ships without concern for mineral costs. Defence against air units is paramount.

Grav blink hovertanks - Fast and deadly! No need to worry about terrain slowing you down.

Resonance gun hovertank + trance + empath + resonance 3 armour (+ neural amplifier + Dream Twister + ). Highly useful near the end of the game fungus blooms out of control with about 10 native lifeform units in each fungus square bloom.

Gravship Formers (Super,Fungicide) and gravship colony pods (Nanocells, Radar), although they won't form sea colonies for some reason. Granted it's pretty late in the game, but I really enjoy the late game. Especially on huge Planets, where the range of the above units really helps.

Drop formers. Good for building an airbase between continents. Fairly situational, but still helpful.
