I've always gotten a kick out of this one: Lake Titikaka (somewhere in South America)

Lahore (in Pakistan; my dad was born there) also comes to mind

Erm, It's lake Titicaca ( :p ). I know both place's very well, but what's the joke?

I saw a chinese seafood restaurant named Fook Yue's. I even have a picture of it around here somewhere. I'll post it if I can find it.

As for town names in Kentucky or Tennesee(sp?) they have really small town called "Cesspool Hellhole" or "Hellwhole Cesspool" . I can't remember exactly which because it was a year or so ago I saw that.

The funniest part was how I saw that town name. I saw a low level Beauty Pageant on some weird TV channel and a woman was there representing that town. She actually had that written across her sash. :)

Also, I've heard there's a Chinese restaurant out there called "The Foo King Noodle"; I was amused by that one as well.

If you go to PaleHorse76's site there is a funny chinese restaurant name there

Since this is a civ-site after all, one of the cities on the Canadian city list of the CtP games is called 'Head Smashed In'. At first everyone thought the programmers were making fun of Canadians (can you blame 'em? ;)) until we found out the place actually exists :)

How about Knob Lick, Missouri..:D

How about French Lick, Indiana?

Or perhaps Gobbler's Knob, Pennsylvania?

Speaking of Pennsylvania, everyone there knows that you have to go through Intercourse to get to Climax. Make a wrong turn, you end up in Blue Balls.

I used to be a directory assistance operator, so I've heard a lot of strange place names.

Found some good ones:
Bastard (Norway)
Dildo (Newfoundland)
Pis Pis River (Nicaragua)
Sexmoan (Philippines)
Shag Island (Indian Ocean)
Tittybong (Australia)
Yeehaw Junction, FL
Frostproof, FLButtermilk, KS
Fort Necessity, LA
Half.com, OR
Intercourse, PA

Batman, Turkey
Uranium City, Canada (well, it's not that funny, but I laughed my arse off about the creativity those guys have)
Küssnacht (=Kiss Night )
Camagüey, Cuba (I just like the sound of that name!)
Hollywood (Seriously now, why is there one in California and one in Maryland, doesen't that provide a lot of confusion?)
Rocky Mount, North Carolina (couldn't afford more, eh? ;) )
Pennsauken, New Jersey (cute!)
Vicksburg, Mississippi (Nah, you've gotta speak German to get that one)
Odessa, Texas (Why is the largest Black Sea Port in a desert  )
Marx, Russia
Engels, Russia
For some reason, I've always liked Hospitalet, Spain...

Here's some mor:
Haugesund, Norway (in German it means as much as "hit healthy")
Avesta, Sweden (The Avesta is the sacred book to the Zoroastrians)
Dumfries, Scottland
Ostende, Belgium (Why is the "eastern end" on one of the westernmost points of the country?)
Y, France

Actually the second one is in Florida, and I think it was named after the Californian one because they wanted it to become a film-making center too.

Nukus in Uzbeckistan
Moose factory in Canada

I've never heard that explanation.

I've been there more than a few times, and the city fathers have missed that opportunity by a longshot.

These days, it's where old Canadians go to die (much like Boca Raton is where old New Yorkers go if they don't like Miami).

Er, actually... Vancouver is named for the european captain who "discovered" it. George Vancouver I believe his name was, and I'm pretty sure he was British. Maybe his name means whatever it was someone thought in meant though.:p

Also, there is no place in Canada called "Moose Factory" unless it's a very detailed map including a moose nursery, or the name of a store ;) . I think you're thinking of Moose Jaw?

Personally, I think Chinese city names are the funniest... so many with the word "Dong" in it. Dandong just cracks me up.

lol... those are hilarious, but after reading for a bit you get used to it and its not so funny. i was bored by the time i got to C :) , but its still really damn funny
