Monotheistic Union...

For the Monotheistic Global Domination!

Oh wait... It's been done.

the AP vote came up and i thought it was for resident and voted for myself. oops, it was for Religious Leader, and i accidentally won the game. but i won with only my own votes, using patch 3.13, which tried to address cheesy diplo victories:

i won by only a single vote. the rule change in the patch list is "Can't vote on a winner if one team already has all the votes necessary to win". i guess what happened is that when the resolution was chosen and we cast votes, i was something like "my pop < threshold" so the vote was legal. but votes aren't counted until the next turn, so they include any population changes in the meantime. a city or two of mine grew and/or a city or two of their got smaller. oopsies! so i kinda broke the spirit of the new law.

i didn't want to win that way anyway. i was experimenting with corporations, and how much they help/hurt me if i try to handle overseas expansion without splitting off colonies or vassals. and practicing beating other folks up every once in a while. so i reloaded and paid careful attention to what resolutions were actually proposed before i cast my votes!

But doesn't that mean that typically you can't win an AP victory if you have that many votes even if everyone else votes for you?

yup. the rules change means that even if everybody but your opponent would vote for you, you can't propose Religious Victory if you have enough vote yourself. so you'd have to get your percentage down. but you can spread the religion to more of their cities to fix that. or somehow manage to lose a few of your own cities . maybe build new cities and put another religion in them so that the AP religion can't spread to them.

That doesn't seem fair, so you have too many votes so to make it fair you can't win at all? If you have enough votes to do that then it's a given the others don't have enough combined votes to vote for you and for you to win.

It's basically penalize you for being too sucessfull and you have to pick someone else to win because of it.

One more reason why NOT to play CIV!

I think a reload might be in order here. Not cheating. Perhaps you could even consider it to be fixing a cheat.

that's the way it works. i'd start a new game and read the screen next time. something i should probably learn to do myself. "click" "oops" sounds familiar

oh i did reload and keep playing to win the way i wanted to. for my moral code, reloading because i won isn't cheating. i was playing just for myself, not a contest or for bragging rights anywhere. reloading because i lose a fight, that's different .
