Future Olympics

Might as well put the entire games in Austria then :p

But the logistics of that would be terrible. All of the visitors would have to continually cross borders, and Liechtenstein probably doesn't have enough border guards to deal with the sudden flow of tourists the Olympics would bring. :p

Personally I'd rather the USA didn't get the Olympics for some time.. They've had it in 1984 and 1996. Perhaps somewhere like France? Or maybe even an African city?

Africa has never hosted the Olympics. They can have it after Chicago in 2020. :)

Or Cape Town

Are you think of Dakar?

Yes, Dakar. Talk about being shoved out of a civil war, if the Olympics were held there that place would shape up real fast, and get a big economic boost, too.

Sure, they probably couldn't provide much of the services themselves, but that's why foreign companies come in and build it, and invest in your country. With a good economic foundation I think a lot of the problems of the African nations could be solved.

If you prefer, we can move it to Liberia, or Ghana, someplace not absolutely nuts.

The last thing Senegal, Liberia, or Ghana needs is to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on the Olympics

African governments are too unstable and corrupt. Who knows if they'll actually get the stuff built. I'd love for Chicago to win, but we do get it a lot, though we are huge and I don't think there's been a repeat city. I like that London won too--I plan to go--but you guys have already had it twice. I mean, come on... South America is underrepresented too... How 'bout Rio or Buenos Aries?

The only African city/country I can think of is that of Abuja, Nigeria, which had hosted the 2003 All-Africa games and is in the running of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

They have the infrastructure necessary to host the games, (all that would be needed is the construction of other facilities where needed) and if they indeed get the Commonwealth Games, they would easily be capable to host such an event (given the fact that not all Olympic sports are included at a Commonwealth games...)

If not Ajuba, then Cape Town, South Africa perhaps? :goodjob:

From Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympics#Criticism

Most Olympic Games have only been held in European and North American cities; only a few games have been held in other places, which were still limited to eastern Asian cities. All bids by countries in South America and Africa have failed. Many non-westerners believe the games should expand to include locations in poorer regions. Economists point out that the massive infrastructure investments could springboard cities into earning higher GDP after the games.
