Can anyone tell me exactly how many science beakers are needed to research one future tech??

The correct answer to that question is no.

Depends on what level, what tech you have, what techs other civs have etc.

If you are there now, make sure you have NO scientists and set science to zero. The # of turns is the number of beakers needed.

At any given time, you an calculate the number of beakers necessary for an advance at that moment. It takes a little effort, and usually a calculator if you are not good at math in your head.

SMALL CIV SCIENCE CALCULATION:

This is particularly good for OCCs:
- Cut science rate to 0%.
- Remove all scientists from all cities.
- Add one scientist to some city.
- Your science output is now 3 beakers per turn.
- Look at the number of turns for an advance, and multiply...
- The result is the number of beakers required for an andvance.
- Margin of error is -0/+2.
- Don't forget to restore your settings.

LARGE CIV SCIENCE CALCULATION:

This is particularly good for late game, large # of cities.

- Cut science rate to 10%.
- If you have scientists, cut the rate to 0%.
- Now go to your trade advisor (F5).
- Scroll to bottom.
- Note two numbers: your "Total Science:" and "Discoveries:".
- Multiply your Total Science by the Discoveries.
- You will have the approx. cost of science per turn.
- The margin of error is -0/+(Total Science).
- Don't forget to restore your settings.

Why bother worrying about it? Switch to a Fundy govt, declare war on all other civs that are still alive and go on a RAMPAGE!!!!!!

Tip for a good war: Give all enemy civs ALL your techs as you launch your spaceship, then wait until the ship lands. This gives those poor saps time to build up a half-decent military. Then, when the ship lands, throw diplomacy to the wind and declare war on EVERYONE! This will make up for the boredom you face early on with nothing to do but explore, and also give you an excuse to make Nukes if you are one of those who hates them...
