Just lost my harddisk and started again on another PC. (Collection of graphics and resources from years all lost) Reinstalled MGE and patched it with version 3.

I've been working on a new PBEM scenario and upon loading a backup of it (one months work lost and no way to replicate it exactly with the lost files), the background of the diplomacy panels seems to have gone crazy. Lots of black patches and in generally the colour of each tribe seems to be mixed into the background.

This never happened using exactly the same scenario files with my old PC and the only difference is I'm running on Windows ME now. So what gives? Seem to recall someone else having the same problem a while back so what was the cause?

Damn!
Sorry to hear about the HD loss, kobayashi!
I know it feels...terrible.

:(

I use ME myself, but I have never everienced the trouble you speak of...

I have the text boxes going funny once, but only one occasion.

Anyone else have kobayashi's graphic trouble?

I know what causes it on my PC: it's linked to the boarder graphics in the icons.gif file, which gets very uppity if you use any colour other than grey. But for you, using the original files, I can't imagine.

I only have one thought - It's an evil plot by MicroSoft! :D

And sorry about the loss, Kobayashi, I too know how it feels... :(

Sorry for you, Kobayashi :(

BTW, where is it possible to get the latest patch for MGE?
Or will it come with the MGE. pathc available here at CivFanatics?

I'm fairly certain the latest MGE patch is available on the Civ2 downloads section of the CFC site.

If it isn't there, then it's definately at Apolyton.

No I did change the border graphics in the icons file - and the border and background work fine in the entire scenario except the diplomacy screen.

Since the problem started, I have been using a plain blue background to see the words in the diplomacy screen but two things are just bothering me like hell.

1. Why the same thing worked before and doesn't work now

2. Does that mean all the fancy backgrounds I used in my older scenarios caused the diplomacy screen on someone elses PC to look like gibberish? - how come nobody complained?

That must be it. Assuming that the video card is the same as before, you probably did not get the same video driver as before when you installed ME. Or it could be a different version of Direct X

I experienced this while working over Fading Lighta, but kind of liked the effect
(the background was in different pattern
and Serbian one f.e. looked like flames),
so I didn't change that ;)
