G-Major 14

Yep, great result! Unfortunately, had no time to try my couple of good Marathon Inca starts, but I doubt I would've beaten this one.

Yep, congrats everyone. I gave up on this after about 30 attempts with the best one about 30 turns short of a win when the AI launched. Then I had about 2 days of the AI DoW'ing on me when I was in a good situation land-wise and got annoyed and frustrated. So I'll go back to playing Monarch or trying to get my first Emperor win again for now.

At least I've learnt how to beeline to liberalism super fast and got some good practice for cultural victories in future (still not got one in my HOF games, only 1 previous in vanilla before getting warlords and going HOF). As always, the strategy and tips handed out in these threads are invaluable for the specific map type and victory condition specified by the gauntlet.

Deity scares me more now after playing it!

One of you will break the 1000AD barrier for cultural deity, I know it!

I have just submitted a game as fast as my fastest in this gauntlet. Very different game, though.

1335AD. 6 cities. 4 religions, 7 cathedrals. Saladin. Cow+Marble+2FP start. Parthenon built. 16GP, 1GS for tao, 1GA unused, 14 bombed (1-8-5). Another GA due in 2 turns. Two 8-artistsGPfarms.
Researching the neccesary techs for Parthenon and for worker tasks in this not so good start made me fail to be first to Alpha or Liberalism. Then I tried to get PP for trades, but they went all for PP instead of Natio this game, arggg. As a consequence, I didn't stop researching till 590AD!!!!!! Then I had few resources, so no much income from trades, so 90% culture instead of 100%. Cities doing 800-200-500cpt at the end.

What have I learnt? Well, the key to a good result is very good (and early) GPfarms (note the plural).

1 additional gem in the starting position -> being first to Liberalism -> stopping research around 100AD -> saving 7-8 turns for a gauntlet victory but not sub1000AD victory yet.

I'm not so sure about your conclusion. In my 1235 AD games I got 15 GP (1 free Music, so I produced 14). With 2 huge GP farms, 6 cities, and the Parthenon, you only got 16 GP by 1335, so that was probably also only 14 by 1235 AD. I think having the 6 cities instead of 4 is what makes the extra GP. Even the best farm doing say 120 points/turn will take over 10 turns to make just one more.

Hmmmm, I see your point. I was thinking of using 5 cities if possible in small maps, instead of 4.

Capital (Parthenon) popped the first 2 GP, then it was somewhat forced to produce a third one later on. The 2 GPfarms produced most of the GP. The cottaged city didn't pop any. The 2 auxiliary cities produced 2 and 1 GP.

You know, that sounds like 500AD. At 1000AD things are very different, starvation changes all, I was getting a GA every 2 turns (from a different city every time).

By the way, I reached another conclusion, the 4rth religion is not necessary at all. Even some of the cathedrals in the cottaged-non-capital- city could have been sacrificed in order to forgo temples in other cities in order to run more artists and less hills.

If I don't want a 4rth religion, I can send missionaries to no-religion-yet cities. So missionary spam sooner. So next game I will focus on spreading 1 religion to all cities in the 1500BC-500BC timeframe in order to start hiring artists in (almost) all cities before 1AD.

Let me restate my point....
Once you make your "final lunge" to get the final GA out of each of your cities (around 1200 AD right now). It takes your best city at least 10, closer to 15 turns to get just one more GA. If you planned properly, there is a huge hole in the GP generation.

A 4th religion is pretty useless on standard size maps. However, please join the discussion on the other thread regarding early culture wins. I can see it being more useful on a small map. Maybe even required for a 10xx AD win.
