Got 1180AD with Wang. DIdnt finish UN fast enough. OCC of course.
Got 2 Gold 2 Gems 2 Pigs Wine. outside cross copper, iron wheat.
Got 1 free scientist from event quite early so got easily 1 scientist (which coulda been engineer) used it for GA to avoid 2 turn anarchy...

an even better start than mine! The 6F from the pigs is huge... you don't need to build workboats to work the gold, you grow so much faster and you don't need early cottages so you can to to alpha through AH. Great game.And the free sci didn't hurt either. Jeez BTS already gives a ~60 yr advantage, and you can get free specialists too?!? Might be time for me to upgrade.

Yea some event gave scientist and chance for health. Coulda been first wo that slowness on UN. But 2nd place is great, thats enough games for me though now for this gauntlet.

I replayed my start, going CoL first to run sci's for an earlier academy. I also played it like it was BTS, running a sci instead of engr and leaving forest to pretend-chop the UN instead of chopping out uni/Oxford. Helped a bit for health too as Hatty had already traded her extra wheat by the time I could trade with her. Result was earlier academy, +1GS for electricity, +1GS during radio (settled), net -3 (@~500AD) turns from researching Optics but trading for Philo, and MM in 1180 instead of 1148.
Conclusion: It's all about Oxford.

My 2nd attempt (Wang 1210 AD) built the UN in the minimum 2 turns (1 for chopping, 1 for buying).
My first try (Hannibal 1190 AD) used a GE, so it was only 1 turn.
So Ragnar's game could have been ~1050. I'm thinking sub 1000 for my last try. And I think we agree that would be Mansa.
Regarding the 7 AI. True, it's good for tech/cash trades, but it also slows them down (crowded). It also makes your UN opponent and any of his friends smaller. 8 AI might slow them more and help you get Physics from Liberalism easier. I really messed up Wang's game and took Printing PressWang's UB should have made him the best of those 3 leaders. I think all my maps were equally good.

Multicity will be faster I think. I just finished a 1112 game with Mansa. I was finished MM 890ish, then everything went bad (except of course I won the first vote

Multi-city will surely be faster, but I'm not going to spend time on it. I haven't been playing this one any more because I didn't want to lower my Qscores for the games I already submitted.
