Welcome to the December dual-Major Gauntlet. This month we're going to pit Warlords versus Vanilla!

  • If you own Warlords, you are allowed to participate in either or both if you choose.
  • New versions of the HOF mods will be released later today, I believe. It may be a few days before we have the server updated to reflect these as legal in these Gauntlets, but rest assured they will be!

G-Major 6:

Settings:
  • Victory Condition: Space Race (though all victory conditions must be enabled)
  • Difficulty: Prince
  • Starting Era: Ancient
  • Map Size: Standard
  • Map Type: Highlands
  • Speed: Epic
  • Civ: Any
  • Opponents: Must include Carthage (Hanniball), Celt (Brennus), Egypt (Ramesses II), England (Churchill), Korea (Wang Kon), Ottoman (Mehmed II), Rome (Augustus Caesar), Russia (Stalin), Viking (Ragnar Lodbrock), Zulu (Shaka)
  • Version: 2.08.001-3
  • Date: 25th November to 9th January 2007
The earliest finish date wins, with score as a tiebreaker.
See G-Major 6 for details.

Hmm, new mod version released 5 minutes after this Gauntlet. Which do we play with? :P

You can use either, but upgrading to the newer ones is recommended.

Didn't Major6 start off as a 'time' victory condition while the other one was conquest?
('Time' victory condition was amusing because 'earliest finish wins' )

Now that it's space race I need to start again as I started a game and destroyed the Ottomans but left one city surrounded by my cities, and will never sign open borders in order to allow them to get a settler out :)

If I can get this G Major out I become a Quattromaster - (which leads to fame, fortune, babes and the slow descent into the Dark Side).

I notice that the opponents in Warlords are all the new leaders - quick question then, am I allowed to be the same race (obviously I can't be the same leader)? I ask this as I started as Julies Ceaser while my opponent is Augustus Ceaser (we spent the whole game swapping Ceaser salad recipes  )

One last point - I'm happy that it isn't a 'time' victory anymore - the latest HOF's went up and I had the best score for a Prince Time map - which surely would have been beaten :)

And what is the plan for G Minor 12?

James

Have another question -

Is it possible to create a map (G Major) with all the opponents necessary and, when I lose the game, to restart on a new map with the same opponents?

When opponents are chosen, do they need to be in order? I ask this as I dont' want to play a 10 hour game just to find out that you need to put them in order :)

Yes, that's pretty much what happens with Map Finder.

Order doesn't matter.

Thanks for that; now I'll go read up on how it works :)

How is this for a start? Settle in place and Ragnor can't move, he starts with 2 scouts but NO military, so free worker on 5th turn :)

Isn't the Warlords version illegal since it has more civs than allowed on a standard map? (10)
edit: whoops, misread rules, 10 "opponents" are the max

Hi all
i'm a long-time civver, and i'm playing and submitting all GotM and also i'm in my 2nd SGotM.
But i'm new to HOF, and not sure to have correctly understood the rules  .

Someone would kindly explain me something, or address me in the right place?

Of course i've seen the HOF pages ... are they exhaustive?

And this gauntlet ... do you have to generate a map with the settings described, and be free for the not mentioned?

Thanks in advance.

Spoiler While we're still on the subject of starts, here's some I generated for this G-Major... :

It's a very lame tile, but I think you can build a watermill on this one.

I definitely expect the Incans to have the lowest life expectancy rating in the demographics.

Settings described + HOF rules recommended settigns.
All other options (e.g. Small Lakes/Large Lakes/Sea or Random/Ridgelines/Clustered/Scattered) are free to choose.

thanks Robo Kai
another question (to anyone, of course):
do i have to submit the initial save to be HOF approved?

i did it, to see how it works, but the first cell says:

i wish to play in Warlords.

The initial 4000bc save has to be sent in with the final submission, but not before you play. As far as that Unrecognized Install warning goes, I assume you're not using the HOF Mod, which is mandatory for HOF. Go to the HOF page, click on mod and near the bottom you'll find the link for Warlords 2.08.002.

Are you sure you actually launched the mod and not just the game?

 The 4000bc checkpage probably hasn't been updated for the new mods yet. I took a look at your save, you're fine! :goodjob:

I haven't added 2.08.002 or 1.61.009 to the database yet, so those won't be recognized yet. I'll get onto to that right now...
