G-Major 6/7

Yay I got 9th so far. How do people get the really quick dates, I used the following cheats but don't see how you can get b4 1800.
Random Player - OFF picked Wash
Random Opponents - OFF - picked 7 fast teching friendly ones
Barbs OFF
Raging Barbs OFF
Tribal villages on ON (about 3 free techs -3 warriors - 3 scouts)
Permenant Alliances ON
Aggressive AI OFF
Oracle Civil Service Slingshot DONE
Worker steals x3 (felt guilty after 3 and stopped)

When I got to Liberalism the AI were miles behind 8+ techs from the #2; I managed to get Conf to spread so everyone loved me. I set up 3 DefPacts but lost 1 when I went free religion. Then got a PA really easy. Do you just have to gift the AI tech, if so can you get away with only 0.7 milatry per 1 city?

I built all 18 cities; I could have picked off the weakest AI and taken his (Persia - due to worker steals I don't think her ever got to alpha) I suppose, but never had the time in main prod city to do so.

This took about 12hours of RL is that normal?

Bad things I done:
No happiness resources capped pop for most of the game.
Built S.Henge in Great Scientist Farm - that far was set up too late - should have built the GL there instead of capital.
No wars - boring
Too many Great Artists that I didn't Super Specialise- wait for a Golden Age that never happened - National epic for you.
Over estimate the AI's reasearch ability - thought I'd get some help at the end!

Actually, I think I just extended them...I'll double check at update time.

It is difficult to answer shortly. Speed of space race is defined by speed of studying of sciences. I learned modern sciences for 2-3 moves.

I did not steal workers. I have constructed my own 7 cities, have grasped 48 AI's cities (have destroyed 17).

PS However, my friends abuse me for excessive quantity of cities.

Looks like Warlords beat Vanilla. Not sure what that means. Are there better leaders? or other new features that make it a faster finish? Or is it just a coincidence that the best times were on Warlords. It looks like all the people who played both versions finished slower on Vanilla. I'd be interested in hearing the differences. I don't own Warlords.

Anyway, I promised to discuss my research. My tech path looked like this:

I get one or two needed worker techs.
If that happens to include Anim. Husb. then I just go straight to Writing-Alphabet ~2000 BC
No pottery, no religious techs, never bronze.

This allows the maximum # of free techs from the AI. At Prince level, I usually have to get Priesthood myself next, but sometimes that's free too. So then CoL, oracle->CS. 1270 BC

Then Literature to build the G.lib ASAP. (built in 850 BC)
You need G. Scientists to start popping out before the Oracle makes a prophet. (Academy 745 BC)

Education 250 BC
Oxford complete 155 AD

At Prince level, I can always hold off Liberalism to get Computers free. (1280 AD) The AI doesn't seem to go for Edu. I gift away a lot of tech too so I can continue to trade, but they still don't beat me to Liberalism. I usually feed Mansa so he'll get new techs.

I NEVER research Iron Work, Math, Currency, Construction, Calendar,
Philo, Monarchy, Feudal, Guilds, Banking, Nationalism, Constitution, or Combustion
There are a few more techs I occasionally get free -- Metal casting, Corporation, Biology. Since I've started going for more cities, it doesn't seem smart to hold off waiting for Biology or Corporation.

As I played both I'd say faster development and more money to trade from better AI in Warlords.
