G-Minor 23

After reading alot about this game, i attempted (in vain since i forgot to load the mod. DOH) and reached a 1805 game. By far my best attempt out of the 10 or so i've played.

I have a feeling i could push it to 1600, as i researched alot of useless techs on my way to launching.

Eagerly working on submitting lots of HOF games.
That's okay. Welcome to the Hall of Fame! :band: Good luck with your next attempt. ;)

Two attempts. First one, I didn't really know what I was doing half the time, but paid attention to details pretty well. Got 1660 on that one, which seems to be where many have ended their first attempt.
Second run, I knew what I was doing, but messed up my civics and also had a few city management issues. Did better, though, and launched in 1515.
Another very fun gauntlet, thanks :goodjob:

Edit: playing vanilla btw. Lizzie on highlands. I haven't even opened Warlords yet and now I'm going to jump straight into BTS. I should have learnt from Civ3. Never got to play PTW before C3C came out either  Just not enough Civ hours in the day

I cant seem to find the submissions that have been posted so far. After I log in, the G-Minor table is blank.I'd like to see if my posting will finish at least 3 or 4 spots from deead last.

And your prediction of 8xxAD or 9xxAD...I'm going to say that's impossible. Even if you pop 5 free settlers and 5 workers, it just can't be done.
I got 8xx with just 2 Settlers and 1 Worker ;) but without Aluminium :( ...
And as Tatran asked I didn't use Cottages at all.
I played Gandhi on Great Plains. Built Apollo program at 320AD (learn Rocketry ahead of many other techs in 125BC), but had bad luck with GE, so my Space Elevator was delayed and SS components also because I didn't want build it without both Elevator and Aluminium. :(
I finished 1 turn after last science - Ecology.

P.S. I play Warlords.

Moderator Action: The newest versions of the Vanilla and Warlords HOF Mods are not legal for this Gauntlet. We will however move up to them with the next Gauntlets.

If you have logged in and it's been accepted it will show up. There are usually two reasons for it not being there, one the game has not been accepted for HOF, two, they haven't run the sweep to update the table since you posted. Check your submissions list, if it's accepted it should be there.

Sorry, I guess we missed your post yesterday with all the patch excitement. ;)

Checking your submissions list is good advice.

If you have any questions about submissions, the preferred method is to e-mail us at hof.civfanatics@gmail.com.

Yeah it says my post hasnt been checked yet...does that mean i can't see the other posts so far?

It means it hasn't been accepted as a valid HOF game so it won't show in the gauntlet list until after it has been verified. You only get to see your position, no one else's can be seen until the end of the gauntlet. Once that's done you'll be able to see where you stand. Sometime after the 24th, it will show up in your quatromaster tab as well.

Good luck. :)

Another Vanilla player

May I ask which map and leader you're playing? I'm thinking about giving this thing another shot, and would like to know what's best.

Sorry for delay - was offline for a couple days. Elizabeth on Inland Sea. Tried Highlands a few times but never had enough food resources.

:)
True, It's hard to grasp this concept. I recall back in the early gauntlets when people discovered they could get Education instead of CS at lower difficulty levels. They were all excited, but I tried to explain that it's turns that matters. In your (great) example you complete Education in approximately the same year no matter which tech to take with oracle. However, don't forget, by taking CS you also get 20 extra turns with +50% hammers on top of equal tech pace. So it's really no contest. CS is the way to go unless you can't get the Oracle built in time.
Suppose for example you are running a CE and can research Democracy in 3 turns. Suppose you also know that it doesn't matter if you spend the 3 turns or use Lib - you will need 4 turns for say Rocketry later. So do you use Lib to accelerate Democracy or save it for Rocketry? Purely turn-based would say save it, but that would discount the value of the extra beakers of the early emancipation possibly shaving more than 1 total turn off the remaining techs after Rocketry.

So my question is - if early beakers are better than late ones (I agree) but only turns matter and the late techs cost more turns to research than the techs to get the earlier beakers (like democracy, astronomy or computers), what do you do? Or if you don't mind, what did you use Lib for in your current best submission, since that's probably the right answer :)

In this case I'd say yes, use Lib for Democracy. It's not 3 extra turns on Emancipation that make big difference, but the Lib's own benefit -- Free Religion for +10% research, and Free Speech for +2 commerce from towns.

With this benefit you'll tech toward Rocketry a lot faster, and most likely save more than 1 extra turn. That is, you won't save 4 turns on Rocketry, but you'll start researching it, to say, 6 turns earlier. So, you'll finish it 2 turns earlier.

In my current best submission as Peter I used Liberalism for Computers. In G-Major 12 as Huayna I used it for Democracy.

Democracy is helpful only with big amount of Cottages. On Duel map we have a few cities and Cottages so it's not the best decision on my opinion...
I took Rocketry with Oracle and Robotics with Liberalism.
Free Religion also doesn't matter: 10% research is really less then 5% because ordinary cities have +100% and capital +250% from buildings. And Pacifism is more important civic...

True.

Playing as Peter I did not even research it. Playing as Huayna I had like 14 cottaged cities, so it was a top priority.

The OP was talking about CE, though. So, my answer was about CE.

And that would be why I haven't broken 1400 yet - staying in org rel and beaurocracy throughout. It never occured to me to switch to the Lib civics to speed up the teching mid-game. I suppose you do this and then switch back (with US) later on to build the SS parts if you need the hammers? Must be why WastingTime and killercane are using Mansa. Thanks for that insight. I'll give it one more go tonight.

Org. Rel. has no effect on parts. It works for buildings only. Besides, it's expensive (high upkeep), it quickly becomes a heavy burden as your 10+ cities grow. So, I'd say, Free Rel after mid-game for CE.

SE is a different story, you may want to switch back and forth between Slavery - OrgRel (to whip some useful buildings), and Caste System - Pacifism (to max research and GPPs).
