G-Minor 90

Well done! Looks like you got a few more GPs than me, my lack of a farm site hurt. Two questions:

- Did you get the GA from music? I'm wondering if that detour is worthwhile.
- I assume you built GE generating wonders, any others? E.g. I'm wondering if Gr Lib is worthwhile, if nothing else than for GS points? In fact, since I popped a profit, I'm even wondering if Oracle is a good move?

I think Music is very worthwhile. I let the ai research literature and drama for me, and i get music around the time i get radio. I then use liberalism to get radio, and the free artist bulb mass media. I only needed 1 turn to research music, and 2 turns on liberalism. Radio takes about 10 and mass media takes about 6. The free artist saves me 2 turns, which is a good deal.

I had my 2nd try and I was very unlucky. I didnt get a GE and i couldnt get enough votes from the UN, b/c everyone hated Qin and Mana Musa managed to steal my votes despite I have more positive points on other ai (I get screw by the hidden modifiers.) If everything went what it supposed to happened, then my date would have been in the 400AD.

Well done, WastinTime!

I'm interested in your answers to TheHawks questions, and if you have time to field these, I'd appreciate it...

- Why is max opponents (7) an advantage over 4 or 5? It seems you want land enough for 5 cities and enough opponents to make voting less dicey and enough opponents to walk into a capital. I had problems with only 3 opponents, but I can always manage the vote with 4. So I have always been starting with 5 opponents. I must be missing another factor.
- Similar to Hawk's question, if you Oracled, were you able to spend it on Astro or something else post-CS?

Thanks!

I didn't have very good food sites either, but I built GLib. I also had to run Pacifism for a short while to get the last GS out.

I did Pyramids and HangingG. I also run an engineer in a couple cities as soon as I can get a forge up.

I think I forgot to build the Nat. Epic.

I did get the free music GA. I was not able to get the AI to research drama, so I had to do that too. Still, the beakers from the GA bulb is more than Music+Drama.

I oracled CS and got Radio from Lib.

RE Max opponents: I planned to abandon any game where I couldn't capture my neighbor's capital. For that I want them as close as possible. It makes success more likely and lowers cost if my empire is tighter.

Another huge reason for more opponents: Each one will have a smaller percentage of the population. I know they're all going to vote for me except the top guy, so I just need to make sure that one guy isn't too big. Max opponents keeps him to ~20%. Even if one other AI abstains, I probably still win.

Good calls there. Interesting arguments as usual on here.

Question: Can I just pop down a few settlers on the turn the vote comes up or does that cancel the vote.....self-voting?

EDIT: just finished my first attempt - also my first game in a month.

Sweet start! Hammurabi's border revealed on the first turn after moving my warrior NE. I waited a turn or two for his warrior to vacate and I was in like flint. I also popped a Fast Worker (I was Gandhi) and a turn or two later, it popped a settler. I started on a PH tile with river gold and gems (which overlapped with Babylon and had another gems. By 3825BC, I had three cities. I popped another the same turn I build my first and had 5 cities by the time the AIs had their second. I teched away, build 'mids, Oracle, etc. At one point I got a GP which I burned for DR. Also got the GA for Music. After burning two GS on Electricity and I think Radio, I bulbed MM. I love the pre-chop feature on BUFFY!!!! With the GE and workshop prechops in my Moai city, I had the UN within one turn of discovering MM and MM on the same turn as electricity, I think. Probably not in the top 5, but fun nonetheless.

I reckon I lost a bit from building a 6th city, courthouses and not concentrating on building research all the time. I was gifting techs and resources all game. Everyone was pleased with me even though I was heathen to everyone but KK! I did not actively spread my religion. KK was the worst enemy of at least 3 civs and I would occasionally stopping trading with him at their request. Eventually he DOWed on the turn I built the UN. I upgraded to LBs and shifted some troops. I of course got his other enemies in on the action and was immediately sharing war diplo bonuses and Asoka, Darius and WK went Friendly with me.

I loved how I switched to Dariu's religion the very turn I went Free Religion.haha.....still got the bonus too. I was up against Darius for the vote and so I gifted two techs to Pericles, but that turn he jumped to second place, knocking Darius down. There was no doubt I would win. Fun, fun!

Going to try a few more. Only 5 cities, maybe a little closer. I will keep the military protection going with having one city build troops, I think. It paid off. Might prioritize Philosophy sooner, for more GS.

Yes, getting over the self-voting limit on the turn the vote comes up cancels the vote.

you can of course increase your pop the next turn (ie. turning off growth in all your cities prior vote then turn on growth at the turn of voting).

Another method is nuke your opponent's pop to smithereens.

My graphics card has been swapped for an AGP one (I bought a PCI Express one by mistake, silly me).

How long is left on this gauntlet? Looks like an easy starter to get me back into the game, and check out the BUFFY features.

Hmmm, epic speed though. But on warlord shouldn't be too taxing, so I should be able to play it quick.

Aww, ended just as I was about to start ;)

What's the next gauntlet gonna be???
