Standard Hall of Fame rules (*) still apply, but any games meeting the settings will be counted towards the Gauntlet.

(*) Please read the >> HOF rules << BEFORE playing!

Settings:
  • Victory Condition: Science (though all victory conditions must be enabled)
  • Difficulty: Prince
  • Map Size: Small
  • Map Type: Terra
  • Speed: Standard
  • Leader: America (Washington)
  • Required: One City Challenge
  • Opponents: Any
  • Version: SV7 (1.0.1.332)
  • Date: 15th November to 1st December 2011
The earliest finish date wins, with score as a tiebreaker.

A certain amount of AI husbandry is clearly required. Will it be possible to keep them all alive but none too big? Some pruning might be needed, or plenty of distraction wars. If only one or two fill up the New World, they could run away with it.

Building all spaceship parts one after another will cost time at the end.

even occ, there's no reason the AI at prince should "run away with it"

the main problem with this one is it's going to end up highly luck based in that getting a factory / spaceship factory cuts a huge number of turns, but having both coal and aluminum within your borders is generally not going to happen, and it's doubtful any AI will get to electricity before you're done.

additionally, a corner start to avoid some wars is going to help.

I've never tried one of the gauntlets so I fired this up last night to try out some fun with you guys. I've enjoyed scouring for tips on getting better at other (then science, my most common) victory types or good policy choices to speed up certain victory conditions. I forgot how easy it is to get whatever wonders you want on Prince difficulty. So that threw my plan off as I was able to get 4 or 5 key ones instead of the 1 or 2 I'm used to getting it in a game. The OCC is also unusual for me as I prefer atleast 2, alas I play all my games on Duel or Tiny to spare my computer extra stress (I load them up with 15-20 AI for crazy fun).

I feel good about having oil discovered in the late 1200's or early 1300's, a rarity for me, but I've run into a problem that none of my AI competitors have any gold at all so RA's have been few and far between. They also have all declared war on me because I hid in Washington with my initial warrior for almost the whole game so far. Finally built two crossbows and have held them all back, with only England coming close to ending my game, silly Longbows. I'm thinking I may have to start buying stuff from my AI's so that I can then sign up for more RA's. I guess I have been thinking all day at work if gold focus would be better then science for this reason. My start was definitely set for making money, 4 plantation resources within the 5 tiles and a fairly respectable river along side my city.

I'm so glad we enjoy a game that can get this kind of chattiness out of me, I am not big on this stuff in many other forums haha...

Build more units so that AI won't declare war on you. Three is enough, but keep them upgraded.

well, terra causes the starting area to be pretty small, and since it's occ you can never expand to the other island anyway. hence a little strange.

You can send a unit(s) over to the other continent to pop huts though :)

If someone gets Aluminum than he's very lucky.
Coal is not that big problem, you can buy it from a CS.

i finished my game with neither coal nor aluminum before city states had coal available...

Now I'm very curious what your turn time is :)
I received coal from a CS but I probably didn't beat your time.

I lied...:p

I found time to put a fast game. GOTM is similar, so i had a good feeling for this try. I got coal but no aluminium. Like vexing said, don't bother about getting something elsewhere in time. AI got barely into ren. era at the end. I missed Oracle by 1 turn and Chichen by 2.

Finished at turn 257.

I did a 249 run at warlord for the GOTM but with 8 partners.

In this game, France declared war very soon and made peace around turn 120 and everyone stayed calm after that. I bet that vexing did something good as usual, but with no coal it's a pain in the ass.

haha i wish my AI partners had more gold, i was buying open borders and resources all game and still couldn't get RA's up with them all... but I'm happy with 349. Maybe I'll give it a go with a different start set up, I was in the middle of everybody and land locked...

Ok i found a more effective way to play this kind of game, i finished one at turn 255 but with much less luck.

-1 civ broke 2 RAs
-1 civ died around turn 160
-no coal/alu

I have lost 5-6 RAs total.

Next time i hope for much better.
