The Game: A regular old demigod game. I'm a Emperor (consistent winnder) to a DemiGod (consistent loser) player...so I figured the SGers could help me out! No requirements necessary, just sign up and we'll see how it goes. :)

Settings:
All for you all to decide...I prefer a continents game though, and 4 or 5 billion years old. My civ: something so-so. Not something hard like Exp. and Sea, but not a really easy civ. Something for warmongering and pacifists (commercial + something?)

Roster:
Ginger_Ale
Bede
gozpel
ThERat
viper275

***Roster Full***

Not a sign-up as this is way above me :) , but I would think the the Indians or French would be good choices (good UU, good trait synergy)

have been reading SG's for months...consider myself like Ginger Ale, though i managed to win Sid..with lots of luck...so if you want to give me a chance, i am interested in joining this one

Welcome to CFC, ThERat.

Can I steal the last spot? Pretty consistantly winning on Emperor, occasionally start up a DG game but fail.

Sure, gozpel, ThERat, and viper are in - any particular place in the order you guys want to be? Anyone want to start it off (I'm comfortable though)? A Sid win is pretty impressive. ;)

Any civ ideas? Formula has some suggestions - the French have some pretty handy trades. Not a great UU, but if we get Saltpeter, we'd have an ok Golden Age period. Maybe Militaristic + Commercial? Rome? I'd either take Rome or France. :)

ok, thanks for giving me a chance :) ...since it's my first SG, I think I don't want to start it off, maybe 4th player...
haven't played as the romans lately...so i opt for them

Rome sounds nice, but France would be fine too.

I don't mind roster order much, but I'd kind of prefer not to go first.

I start out an everything normal (continents, normal climate, temperature, 4 billion, etc) game tonight - would you like barbarians roaming or sedentary (I prefer sedentary .. they are just a nuisance). France it is!

france is fine, and yes, please no roaming barbs...
btw since i always tend to screw up demigod, are we doing self research or mainly aiming for GLib and steals? hope i can learn sth from this SG, maybe you guys got some great strategies :D

GA,

:salute:

Reporting for duty. Haven't played the French, ever.

I was hoping not to use the GL - it's too big of a crutch. In the beginning, self research to keep up, once we get mid way through the Middle Ages, we can start conserving cash and buying + selling them, once we know many civs.

I'll start tongight.

:salute: Bede

I don't mind starting games, so it's up to you where to put me in the roster, GA.

France is alright, I haven't played them for a while.

Turn 0 - 4000 BC
We start out one tile from the coast, so we send the worker onto wheat, and the settler to the north.

Turn 1 - 3950 BC
We settle Paris, and start production on a warrior. The worker roads. We start Mathematics at minimum (we're the only civ that can research it off the bat, so hopefully we'll get it first. :D

Turn 3 - 3850 BC
Worker finishes road, starts mine.

Turn 7 - 3650 BC
Worker finishes mine, goes to bonus grassland.

IBT: Paris: Warrior -> Warrior

Turn 8 - 3600 BC
Warrior explores south, worker roads. We turn luxury up to 20% to combat rioting.

Turn 10 - 3500 BC
Worker finishes road, starts mine. Warrior notices an early luxury 4 tiles from Paris! Silks ahoy! [dance]

Turn 11 - 3450 BC
IBT: Paris: Warrior -> Curragh

Turn 14 - 3300 BC
Worker finishes mine, moves to another BG.
We meet a Zulu scout! We are up Alphabet, they are up Bronze Working, Pottery, Warrior Code, and Ceremonial Burial. I abstain from trading right now until we meet more civs...

Turn 15 - 3250 BC
We turn luxury up to 30% to combat rioting.
Worker roads bonus grassland.

IBT: Paris: Curragh -> Settler

Turn 16 - 3200 BC
We pop a hut...we get barbs, but only 1, because of water...we have a source of fresh water by the silks, near plains, so that's good.

Turn 17 - 3150 BC
Worker mines.

Analyzation:
We get a settler in 2 - I would use it to claim the silks first...the Zulu don't seem to be too close to us, which is good. They now know Alphabet - they probably got it from a hut. See if we can find another civ + get Pottery for a granary in Paris. Keep up minimum research on Mathematics.

-------

Bede is up, gozpel on deck. Let me know if I made any :smoke: moves...I'm still pretty new to DG. Attached is the save, a plain map, and an attempted dotmap. Good luck Bede.

looks like a good start. hopefully we meet others soon for trading. i always trade early in games higher than emperor, chances are they get the techs elsewhere. hopefully the maths gamble pays off.
you want to settle blue or red first?

Nice defendable little corner we have, let's hope we don't get boxed in.

I'm heading the settler straight for the spot by the dyes, then I would fill in east and west. Once we get to MapMaking we will be really wealthy, I don't see any real strong shield locations yet.

Dot map comments: a little spread out to the south, otherwise pretty good, GA.

Dark-red first, then blue, the red, etc...work our way outwards and then inside.

Building outside in is high risk in a DG game. Unless you object strongly I'll follow the plan of settling two north of red, then green, then blue

Ok start-position and we have to settle against the AI to avoid being boxed in as Bede said. Just a thought, if we settle ontop of silks and goldhills, the towncentre produce an extra gold.

But I don't think that is important in this game, still I would like to have a tighter build. If not for anything else we might like the shorter movements between cities in case of a war.

Okay, two and a half times base cost is what we can expect in tech trading for monopoly techs.

Going for maths early is a gambit I have not tried before but it does make for interesting trading possibilities, as it is an early unit wonder tech and should have high value, if the nation with elepanhts doesn't beat us to it. Writing is the other high value second rank tech so a min run to maths makes economic sense....

In 2900 meet Henry of the Portugese and he will give Pottery and 5g in exchange for Masonry. As he and the Zulu are less than two turns from meeting take the deal and move on. No brokering opportunities out there but we could use pottery. We take a little hosing...but what the hey it was a free tech anyway and about to lose all its value.

I am going to go ahead and let Paris complete its second settler before starting the granary.

In 2800 meet the Germans and get the rest of the first tier techs except Burial and Wheels for Masonry/Pottery/10g+2gpt leaving enough in the treasury to support research for the next 27 turns and gpt will go up as soon as the second town is built and we get some insurance against German war demands. This deal puts us close to parity as the Zulu now have wheels for their impis, everybody but us and the Germans can bury their dead instead of serving them on toast points as whoredives and the Germans are beating bronze plows into swords.

By 2750 we are down IW and the Wheel to Zulu too, the Germans are riding in chariots and Shaka is stony.

Going to take chance with the first settler and push on to the coast.

In 2670 the Germans start the Oracle so they now have Mysticism.

In 2630 found Orleans on the coast and in 2550 found Lyons in between.

The two new towns are building warriors for garrison and deterrence duties.

We have met Portugal, Greece, Zulu and Germany. And are down The Wheel, Iron Working, Ceremonial Burial and Mysticism. Germany has all the money and knowledge.

We have three tiny villes but a good start on protecting our corner. Our lone worker is roading a bonus grass between Paris and Lyons, and when done there can move on to connect the silks and cut the forest for a barracks at Lyons then irrigate up to the wheat at Paris so we can get the growth bonus there.
