GalCiv2 and 1?

Hey guys,

Im thinking of getting GalCiv2 but I was wondering, should I also get 1 as well since its cheap? Or is 2 pretty much all I'd need? Ive been feeling the need to play a space 4X game for awhile now, and was told this series was really good. Thanks!

I've never played one but i'm having a great time in the second. if you've played other games of same genre...civ for example, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out whats going on.

GC2 builds on the concepts of GC1.

if you like playing GC2, go back and get GC1 for laughs.

unlike the comparison of Civ3 and its sucessor Civ4 I am not aware of any major items in GC1 that were an improvement over GC2.

one fan did complain about the missing "Death Star".

I have both, and the evolution is comparable a leap as Civ3 was from civ2. Galciv1 is charming , but it was just the starting point. To say they've refined the game is an understatement. Galciv is a giant step forward!

That being said the first one is pretty good and can be found for $10 , and is a very fun game and perhaps won't keep you up until 3 AM as much as the sequel.

But In my opinion, Galciv2 is where it's at. I prefer it to a better known franchise that has a version 3 and 4.

If you just want to check out the design of the game, and want old school graphcis, I'd pick up 1, as 2 improves it in many dimensions, but is very like 1 overall (i.e. they reinvented a little, but it's not the same degree of change as say CIV4 from CIV3).

If you can only get one purchase, I'd get 2 if your system can run it, and maybe Dark Avatar too.

The first game doesn't have the ship designer. I couldn't live without the ship designer!!!

The Space sharks in GCI were a bit of pain as well espically in the early days

I don't see anything wrong with picking up GC1 if you are interested in playing through the series.

I think now most people are picking up the Gold edition with both GC2 and Dark Avatar.
