Galleys and Subs

It's a 1:1 combat with the 10% bonus to the defender, so you're only goiing to win a little less than half the time.

Didn't know this before. Makes perfect sense now. And I thought the ai always won the galley wars because they "cheated" so that on the next turn they could land units on your territory! :D

I have the same luck with galleys. Seems like every attack is a guarenteed loss. I have sent a navy of 12 galleys against three ai galleys...and lost miserabley. Granted this is pretty unusual, but i find there is a 1/3 chance of victory.

I have a believer!

:wavey: Thanks Roi du Culture. I played a few games with Galleys before i ranted here.

this is exactly what makes the Byzantine UU so great, you are basically granted naval supremacy due to the extra attack and lethal sea bombardment

so if you want to have an early naval war, you should really consider playing as them.

Thanx, i will now. I don't think i have been them yet.

Having the same experience, I just surround the little buggers and herd them out into open waters away from shore ;)
If the AI is transporting they do not attack my lone ships but instead try to go around. If they do attack, I am defending and have experienced winning a little over 50% of the time.
