Game Crashes after Intro

I have scrolled through all the threads on this forum, and my "crash" situation seems to be unique.

This is what happens. The game loads and when i am looking at the "menu" the game just crashes. Even if I dont press anything.

The game will crash if i try to load a saved game, or start a new one no matter what setting, (tiny map to huge)

i can watch the introduction movie all the way through and no crash but as soon as i am at the menu, it is as though there is a countdown of 10 to 20 seconds and it just crashes.

I have a state of the art machine, and the game was working fine the past 2 weeks. But now no matter what I try what setting, whether i boot up in direct x 9 or 11. As soon as the game is fully loaded and I am about to chose whether i start a new game or load an old one, even if i am just looking at the options, it just crashes. With no error message no nothing.....

I have tried the following
- Turning of steam
- updating my Nvidia driver
- Tried editing the userfile so the Intro doesnt boot up
- Tried all variations of map sizes
- Have gone to the CIV 5 directory and used the DirectX setup and reinstall it

But as soon as I am at the menu and i am all good to start playing. No matter if i chose an option or just leave it at the menu and the music is just playing, 20 seconds or so from it loading up it CRASHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so annoying :(

Please help,
thanks in advance
Fred

no, there is no other programs running. I rebooted the computer and tried. But still crashes. I have a QUAD core with tons of ram. Wouldnt think its my specs that would crash it. Something to do with the game.

Its just weird that I am not even loading a big map game, or doing anything that uses up much RAM/processing power. I am at the main menu!!

I didn't mean that other programms could cause the crash.

I'm more suspecting that your computer coudl have a problem at all, so i ask if you can run any other process heavy applications (Games, Benchmarks, etc) on your computer without crashing.

i have had a similar error due to my experiences it is because of drivers or windows prequistes.

even though i had a sp3 xp, runtime&dx installed and lastest drivers i got that error. i installed 7 with 7 drivers and problem solved.

Thanks for the reply THE J, seems the new patch I can play the game now, but I just cant load saved games heh

I thought I was in the clear too FastFred until my new game froze at turn 120. I tried to reload it but got the same runtime error I get when trying to load games prior to the patch.
