Game crashes at capital

This games is really starting to cheese me off.

I've been working on a private WW2-present mod for 9+ months and it's almost near to where I want it. I've recently started a whole new game to try out my different modification but I cannot get past the 1st turn because as soon as I select my capital to build anything, the game crashes. A similar thing would happen in a previous game on the same scenario when I would scroll up a little past england. This is VERY aggravating. I havent changed hardly a thing since the last I played the game when the capital was not the problem. I have reinstalled the whole game (+ PTW, + 1.21F) twice and the same thing still happens. Very aggravating.

I have put this HELP thread on creation and customization because it happened while MODing. Has anyone else had something similar happen to them?

My capital only has the palace in it, and no units appear above my starting location, thinking that was the problem. But it happens with or without the units. Sometimes it just crashes if the screen is anywhere near the city.

i had the same problem , by me it was the units_32.pcx , i just copy pasted my sheet over another one and the game does not crash anymore , if u dont know how im willing to fix it for u , or u could use Zulu's mega Unit_32.pcx

You said you haven't changed hardly a thing. But what minor changes did you make? Or did you mean you haven't changed anything other than reinstalling?

I made minor changes such as eliminating the units at the start location, and deleting all the building except the palace at the capital. I just changed the unit_32.pcx as was advized and that problem went away. But when I scrolled north toward norway it crashed just the same????

what dose it say win it crashes

This doesn't answer much.

I havent run into this problem before when I would MOD. Only in the last few weeks has it happened. When there would be something wrong with a unit file or something would be missing it would always say, now nothing.

Once I had a similar problem with a corrupted custom unit graphic.
I ordered a city to build this unit from outside the city screen and everytime I entered the city the game crashed.
After lots of tries I found out that it was the default-graphics of the unit that is displayed in the city screen, because when I replaced the unit's default.flc with another .flc-file, the problem was gone.
Interestingly Flicster was able to show the problematic .flc, but Civ3 was not.

So maybe you have some corrupted graphic files in your game and everytime this graphic is going to be shown on the screen it crashes.

Don't know if this helps.

No not really. If that were the case then any city that is building a similar unit would cause the game to crash, and that did not happen. If I even move the map over to my capital then it crashes, a real mystery there.

I think, the corrupted graphic does not necessarily have to be displayed in the city screen, maybe it's also somewhere on the map (for example an AI-unit).

Or maybe this kind of crash can also be caused by other graphics than units. I don't know what you've changed.

Just ideas ...

I once had a problem with a mod crashing for no apparent reason.
I finally realised it was because I'd added a new citizen type in the editor but hadn't added a graphic. There may be other examples of "minor" changes in the editor which just screw the game up. If it just happens with this one mod, it may well be something like that.

Have you modded the capital 'star'? That's a thing that shows over your capital, but nowhere else. Check if that might be corrupted/missing.

What about resources or other terrain features? Have you made any changes there?

Thank you very much gentlemen. It seems that it was some missing grafix files. I had thought it was something that I had encoded wrong. But this had never happened to me before, and I had back up all my grafix modifications before I started to reinstall everything, so it came as quite a shock that things weren't working.
