Game crashes upon loading a new game.

I have installed a fresh copy of Civilization 4, on my box, and updated it to version 1.61, and everytime I try to create a game, or enter any game for that matter, CIV4 will promptly dump me back into desktop once it comes to the "Init Graphics" part while creating a new custom game.

My comp specs are better than the recommended hardware list, and I hope any kind soul would help me rectify the problem.

Are your video drivers up to date?

Ok, I've updated my video drivers and yes, I can get into a game, and yet, every time I start another custom game, and 5 turns into it, the game declares someone "a time winner" or something like that, and the game just kicks me out to the desktop at around 1250AD.

This happens just as a window was about to pop up, like as if to suggest something for you to do.

wasn't this also an issue with the bad nocd crack?

Yeah it is, i've fixed it already. I had to use the crack because I share the game with my brother and at times, both of us wants to play the game, and the crack was thus necessary.
